define cult status...

hello there! I'm currently working on a paper about BR/DADOES for school and I would like to see your opinions on that subject: what is the main reason for the movie's cult status?<BR>Also, "what" is cult status, what makes the Blade Runner fans and the movie itself different from the others? <BR><BR>thanks in advance<BR>cheers!<BR>dili

Cult status? Its has a following by a group, its shines above the trash which floods out of Hollywood - Bollywood mainstream and surpasses the soul-less, and predictable mindset of the money hungry entity of cinema.<BR><BR>Ideas, vision, atmosphere its all contained in BR. A possible future?

Cult statis refers to how avid a fan group is and how unmainstream. For instance do the fans set up chat groups and have websites deadicated to small obscure facts about the film? Do they nearly live and breath on a daily basis their interest? Does it seem almost like a religion to outside persons? Does their Iconoclast sensibility give them a sense of pride and or identity? Then most likely "yes" it is "cult"

I always thought it ironic that Cult is the begining of Culture. Because to me religion is more about Culture and a group of people living together that it is about true morality.

SpookyBoy, I disagree with your definition. You say that a cult movie shines above the stuff coming from Hollywood, but that isn't always true(and I know there is plenty of junk from Hollywood).<BR><BR>There are many terrible cult movies. There are some movies that only have a following because of how bad they are.<BR><BR>Many people profess to liking some pretty strange stuff, and many times I have seen that it is only because they think it is either funny/cool to be seen watching it/known to watch it.<BR><BR>Don't get me wrong, though. Everybody has different tastes, and most people watch what they watch because they genuinely like it, no matter how unenjoyable it may seem to most others.<BR><BR>But I do know that there is a contingent of people who wouldn't watch/act like they enjoy what they are watching if there weren't other people around them that they could "show off to" about it. The purpose of doing this is to cultivate a certain image.<BR><BR>Sorry for kind of going off topic to my original point(cult doesn't=better like you said), but I think it's still relevant.<BR><BR><BR><BR>

Look in the dictionary under "Cult" and you will find the definition containing things like Blade Runner, Robocop, Star Trek, Star Wars etc.
