A good place to start would be the article that Bentley Ousley did for Bladezone...

Have you heard the radio show also by Bentley?

_________________

Richard Gunn
News and Content Manager for Bladezone
richardg@bladezone.com

[ This Message was edited by: Deckard BR26354 on 2003-02-12 06:42 ]

Many of the albums put forth by Vangelis during the same period as the Blade Runner Soundtrack have a similar "feel" to them. You might be interested in the soundtracks to the films Antarctica, Mutiny on the Bounty , as well as some of his other works such as Opera Sauvage, Beaubourg, Soil Festivities. His music from this period tends to be more electronic in nature as opposed to the more recent releases such as Mythodea which are mainly orchestral in their final form.
The music he made for BR is rather unique.

However, I'd like torecommend these:

-"Antarctica" soundtrack
-"Chariots of Fire" closing theme
-"Bounty" soundtrack
-"The City" album
-"Direct" album (one of his most inventive
works, hard to get these times)

There are plenty of compilations, but my most favourite one is (how predictable)
Greates Hits. It contains his songs from the 70s (I think he made his best back then). It contains classic songs, like Alpha, Dervish D., To the Unknown Man, Pulstar, Bacchanale, Theme from Cosmos and more...

I am surprised no one mentioned vangelis's Themes. For a long time it was the only CD that had music from BR in it. It also has themes from both opera savage and antartica (I tink). I also would second Direct. I used to listen to that album every day when working for a friend's computer company in 91'. Also check out Tangerine Dream(the group).
Thank you very much for all the replies, I will certainly look into what you people suggested.

The Dark Knight, thanks for suggesting the Japanese musician Kitaro. That reminds me, I am willing to look into similar music to BR wether it's by Vangelis or somebody else, so any ideas would be great.

I have tried looking into similar artists, but I must say I really don't have much of a liking for most new age music, actually most of it annoys me.

But on the other hand, I think I can appreciate synthesized music(and basically 80's music which I think is unfairly ignored by many) more than most.

I have unexpectedly become a big Prince fan in the past year, BTW.

Speaking of New Wave, I was a big Duran Duran fan back in the 80's. Three of my favourite songs by them are instrumentals: Tel Aviv , Tiger, Tiger , and Rose Arcana (actually recorded by their side project, Arcadia).
Yeah, I really liked Duran Duran's View to a Kill theme song, too. Loved the thumping drums.

And all the neon colors during the opening credits, so 80's but so good!

I know this is not new wave music, but is anyone familiar with Joy Division? Boy, some of there stuff is so cold and creepy. Lots of good bass

[ This Message was edited by: Lost Painting on 2003-02-17 00:16 ]
