Did Roy send Pris to J.F. Sebastian's apartment, or did she

I am fairly new to Blade Runner, and the answer to my question may be common knowledge to older fans, but I truely don't know.

Well, I know that Roy showing up soon after Pris arrives doesn't mean she planned anything with him because he was told to go there by Chew, after threatening him for info. So if she did scheme with Roy, it was between the Chew/freezer scenes and her first scene. It certainly could have happened, and that brings me to another question, where was she before arriving at Sebastian's place? If she hadn't planned to meet Sebastian with Roy(or the others), could she have really been lost after a falling out with the replicants or something? Just wandering around?

Here are some other things I noticed. Sebastian said how he was a genetic engineer or designer(don't remember the dialogue) and asked Pris if she knew what that was, and she responded with a "No". Of course she is already aware that she's a replicant, and would know what a genetic engineer/designer is. But this does not necessarily make it a devious lie. It could easily have been a little white lie that's only purpose was to have Sebastian talk more about his job. She could have just been playing up the naive innocent deal to get to the warm apartment and food(ok, maybe it's not too warm...).

Now it's obvious that once Roy arrives, they are both being nice to Sebastian to get to Tyrell(she didn't wrap her legs around Sebastian for nothing), which is totally understandable. So it either comes down to Pris being sent to befriend and win over Sebastian, or Roy filling in Pris about Sebastian's connection to Tyrell while Sebastian was asleep or something(and they talk him into going the next morning).

Something that points towards her not knowing anything, is her reaction to Sebastian outside the apartments. She is startled, and seems to be leaving until Sebastian reminds her that she forgot her bag, and THEN a real conversation starts. On the other hand, there is that ominous music playing(sounds like an animal wailing) while showing Pris' face, and the streetlights that look like cat's eyes in the background. It may not mean she's planning anything bad though, maybe just forshadowing the trouble to come for her(or everyone) in the building.

If I am missing some things, or forgetting some explanatory or insinuating dialogue/actions, please remind me. I'll personally admit that I like to think that Pris was honestly there by accident and meant no harm(but later took adavantage of the situation).

I wrote a lot here, but try to go over all the points I made and give me your take. I can't wait to see what you have to say
i read the script to try and find out a little more but unfortunatly to no avail i would assume that Roy sent her to sebastian after talking more to chew he would have possibly found out a little more about Sebastian and therefore sent Pris to make the first contact. I think she actually knew where Roy and the then still living Zora and Leon were because she says she'd let her "friends" know were she was in the morning. but later that night Deckard and Rachel retire the two latter repilcants. Soo in my opinion Pris was sent by Batty then again thats just my opinion

I must admit, this is a fascinating and intriguing point. Never stopped twice to think about J.F. and Pris? first meeting. I guess she plays the ?I?m a lost little girl? roll so well that I automatically assumed it was by ?accident?. Now, however, it makes perfect sense that perhaps she and Roy were in accord as far her conveniently bumping into J.F.

I do think, however, that she might not have expected this J.F. Sebastian to be the way her turned out to be. I mean, c?mon. If you?d have met this nerdy, ?Rain Man-like,? homeless-looking stutterer, would pin him right away as a genetic engineer genius? On the other hand, maybe she really did get spooked when she first saw him. Unless, of coarse, she knew that J.F. was the only one that lived at the Bradbury, and whom ever came to the building would have to be J.F.?in which case, it was all a great act from the very beginning.

BTW, welcome to the forum, Lost Painting.
Thanks, glad to be here

If it was all an act, then it was a great job by the character of Pris, Daryl Hannah's acting, and especially Ridley Scott's direction. It's a great testament to the movie that we are here discussing so many ambiguous(for some) scenes all the time.

These scenes were not played out like most movies would have done, beating you over the head with "Look, she's here to trick him! Don't you get it?"

Even after seeing the movie several times, it never really dawned on me that Pris might have been acting right from the start. Maybe I was being naive, but I guess I felt a lot of empathy for Sebastian who might have thought his life was taking a turn for the better by accidentily meeting this beautiful girl outside his apartment building.

That brings me to another big question---Do you think Sebastian had fallen in love with Pris? I think that it's likely, and if not in love, at least enjoyed having this nice girl around.

Whenever I watch the scene where Roy first comes to the apartment and starts making out with Pris, my heart kind of sinks and you think Sebastian feels the same way. Notice how he excuse himself when they are kissing and offers to get some food. I just think he couldn't bare to watch them kiss. It's sad.

BTW, on a sidenote I think that Pris looks even better after she has the white skin, black outfit, and painted face I think it's the coolest looking outfit in the movie!

Yeah she is send by Roy.

However I still did't read the movie script but looking at the way how Pris act during the meeting scene all my feeling told me that she was send by Roy.
A view scenes before, Roy met Chew, Chew told him about Sebastian. So he used Pris to provoke some emotions on Sebastian.

Lost Painting, one of the VERY FEW things Jeeter incorporated in the book sequel that I liked and agreed on was the issue of J.F. having fallen in love with Pris. He explained how deeply J.F. mourned her death and somewhat resented Deckard for killing her. Moreover, in the book J.F ?reconstructs? Pris. She?s nothing but a walking zombie now, not really self aware of her existence, but he still loves her none the less.

[ This Message was edited by: endzem on 2002-12-29 15:33 ]
I find it hard to believe anyone could justify Pris meeting Sebastian as mere accident. Roy extracts Sebastian's name from Chew, a short while later, in this huge city, Pris just happens to pick Sebastian's front door to sit by, (and we see her walking there specifically). She just happens to bump into him and then get herself invited in. The one person who they have found may be able to get them to Tyrell? Come on - the Reps purpose is to get to Tyrell. Pris is sent to infiltrate. That she and Roy then manipulate Sebastian is evident.

Pris doesn't need to tell Roy where she is because Roy sent her there in the first place.

Pris certainly uses her "special skills" to make Sebastian like her. I think "fall in love" may be a somewhat strong desciption though, although he obviously wishes Roy hadn't turned up! But then he is also fascinated with Roy as a supreme technological achievement (that he contributed to).
In the original script, J.F. finds Pris in his "little ambulance" - the one with his name written on the side...
