I seem to remember this in the old forum, and I also seem to remember that the answe I gave went something like this:

i've allways belived that Memories of Green was about how Deckard is looking at the old photos, and is remembering how the earth used to be, the mechanical sounds, to me, reprisented how the technology was takeing over nature (the piano part). But thats just my opinion.

Memories of Green definately represents the natural and artificial sides of life. Natural being represented by the Piano and artificial by the electronic sounds and beeps. But this doesnt necessarily say that Deckard is a replicant... It links to both... as if to say he is deciding which he is while looking at his photos. Its is a moral dilemna for Deckard... The music is very off key (not out of tune, but not like a usual song. It has its tune but seems like someone is just pressing keys on a piano). This perhaps represents his inabilty to over come his dilemna by prodding through different thoughts (piano notes) in his head.

What do you think?

[ This Message was edited by: RepDetect Unit 1051 on 2001-09-04 07:47 ]
"Time to die..."
The scene at the piano with Deckard looking at he photographs while "Memories of Green" is playing represents to me the "real" and the "unreal."

There is the notion that pictures are not real... they are the/an "extension of reality." Photos are used to reinforce the memories we already have or to put those memories back to the front of our brain.

To take this further... or more distant... depending on your point of view, pictures give us a foundation to put our emotions on.

I think BLADERUNNER is one of the best movies of all time. When it was released in 1982 I knew then it was ahead of its time. The popularity of this film is greater now than at the time of its release.
I feel that this motion picture asks the imp
I just add that Memories of Green were composed by Vangelis for his other album, released sometimes in the seventies, so it is not original track made especially for BR.

You know, Ridley is very tough man to satisfy when it comes to making music for his movies. For BR he wanted music from few other sources, what Vangelis was uncomfortable with. As a result, V. refused to release original soundtrack with his original recordings back in 1982. Later he changed his opinion...
Scott cooperated with him once more on 1492:Conquer of Paradise, and wanted V's music for White Squall, but this time the were not able to find a common point. So Vangelis released his music originally composed for White Squall on his album Oceanic.
IMHO White Squall was crap anyway.

"I've hypothesised things you people wouldn't believe"
Well, as I have already told in another thread, I have no conditions to his works from seventies and eighties, but IMHO he certainly lost both is unique invention and influence on electronic music scene in the nineties. His last album I have enjoyed was "The City" from 1990, perhaps soundtrack to "1492", but that one was just too popular for my taste.
