Deckard and Rachael Photos

Has enyone here noticed that in the deleted scene "Deckard & wife" picture in front of their home, it is on the same porch as the photo of Rachael and her mother?

If it had not been in the DELETED scenes and had been re-introduced I would think that would be more evidence of the DECK-A-REP perspective. Memories made by the Tyrell Corporation for them both at a convenient photo location?

That's a very interesting idea. I don't have access to the photos at the moment, so I can't compare them side-by-side, but I do recall they looked very similar.

If intentional, perhaps Ridley felt it gave away too much info on Deckard, and wanted to leave it more ambiguous. Kinda like the "are you a man, it's hard to tell around here" frying-pan-over-the-head comment made by Gaff. Though that line was completely over the top, and not as subtle as two photos with similar or the same setting/background.

And back in 1982 you'd have to have a quick eye to notice the photo similarities, back in the days before easy-to-watch-again VHS rentals (and later medias).

Though it's possible that it may be as simple as a continuity error, that didn't need to be corrected because it wasn't used. Very unlikely, I know, but it's a consideration. Though I do like your observation/theory much better. ;)

It's not the same porch/house.

Thanks for the images.

But you have to admit, those two houses/porches are damn close. Close enough to come across as the same house, in the context of a film that normally wouldn't be freeze-framed & inspected? Maybe...or maybe not.

It looks like Deckard's house is just a larger/more expensive version of Rachel's house...they both are painted white, they both have very similar pillars, the steps & the front porch itself, both with a plant on the left, both have chairs on the right, the angle of the sun is the same, etc.

And, just maybe, that was the point: since you're meant to see these images rather fleetingly, perhaps they were meant to be similar enough to trigger a 'is it the same house' thought, along the lines of Deckard's original post?

Yup, this film is supposed to mess with our concept with memory and make us question everything. One of those Brilliant layers that you don't get if you watch the movie only once, or even 10 times for that matter. It wouldn't surprise me if it were meant to be true.

Those pillars are quote similar. Maybe another entrabce to teh house. Who knows...

Anyways, I was quite stunned to see that Deck and Wife photo in the deleted scenes. Just by looking at his ex-wife makes me sure she must have been a bitch... :P

Well, she was kind of shrewish in DADOES. Then again Deckard was an @$$h0l3 in the book as well. And Deckard in the movie has his jerk moments too, so...maybe they "deserved each other."

I'm not convinced that isn't two views of the same house. Maybe the "Rachael and her Mom" pic was taken on the back porch, and the "Rick and Iran Deckard" pic was taken on the front porch. It's a very Southern-looking house...It's probably on the Back Lot somewhere, maybe at the "WB Ranch" secondary back lot in Burbank a few miles away from the Warner main facilities.
Yes, I really live in Los Angeles. Srsly. And yeah, life really does imitate art here. Especially now we've got those video billboards. No spinners yet. But I suppose that's next.

Layers. Yep, that about sums it up.

I love how even the SMALLEST, fleeting moment in BR can be the source of discussion and possibilities... :D

Sure of that? If recollection serves me right, I thought it was on the back lot of Warner Brothers Studios?

To be honest . . . I thought I was but now I'm not so sure.

Oh well.

Is the actress Debra Winger the mother of Rachel on the photo?

The woman and girl in the photo is one of the great mysteries. no one has come forth. Their identity remains a mystery. (Replicants maybe? )

Well, DADOES put aside, I don't know why but from all Deckard's voiceovers (also in the script draft) I got impression that she wasn't very loving wife. She called him sushi - cold fish. She escaped with a richier guy to the colonies.
I agree that his voiceovers are just one side of their story and it's true that Deckard isn't the most cheerful guy and it's understandable that it must have been difficult to live with a man who comes home with blood on his clothes once in a while... In the end he looks like quite embittered about women.

She doesn't look very sympathetic to me on the picture, but that's just my impression.

Funny thing is that in Jeter's books he got even worse "bitch" as a love partner - miss Sarah Tyrell herself. Poor guy.
