This is an idea carried forward from the book.<BR><BR>Isn't it the case that whoever remains on earth is destined to become 'special' when they eventually succumb to the radiation - those that are already classed as 'special' have no choice and are treated as sub-human, at which point, basic human rights, such as the right to marry, re-produce and relocate are withdrawn. I would suggest that those who remain on earth, even if they have not yet been classed as 'special' would still be treated as 'second-class' citizens - 'little' people.<BR><BR>In order to maintain the 'status quo' among this population of 'little' people, it would be necessary for the government to provide a police force. I agree with the moderator here. It's rather obvious throughout the movie that distinctions are made between certain classes of people...in particular, the cops versus most everyone else. <BR><BR>However, as far as whether I'd leave or stay, I never choose the easy road and would more than likely remain here.

Certainly the idea of little people makes sense, but I still believe that a great deal of the so-called special people still take up residence on earth. If this was not the case, there wouldn't be the incessant advertising by the Shimato-Dominguez Corporation to go to the colonies. There's only one class of citizen that can do this: the rich.

or it is to be taken literally, in a world like that of LA 2019, with overpopulation and millions of "faces in the crowd" the only way an ordinary joe can have any real power is through law enforcement.
