Why essentially no LCD, no computers in BR???

It was so hard to thinking about it?? it scares me the CRT screen inside spinners or Groundcar.

Well, you could also ask why are people still wearing ties.

Heck, I thunk the tubes add a nice touch to the movie. And hey, ESPER is basically a computer. I've always thought there were other computeresque elements in the movie too.

I think the lack of modern (1982 modern) computers within the movie doesn't age the movie. There are not many things in BR where you say, "oh that's so 80s".

...or probably around 2014 they discovered that LCD and Plasma screens were carcinogenic stuff, and they eventually got back to tubes

anyway, old-style monitors (especially green letterings on black background) reminds me of the good times. i'm a nostalgic kind of guy, and what's better than the late '70s early '80s days?
also, ties, trenches and ladies make the movie look so classy, like in the '20s. how i wish today's women dressed like that, they'd look hotter than those silly low pants or minis...

If that kinds of things bugs you, you probably shouldn't watch ANY sci-fi film made before 1998.

Honestly, it was made in 1981! We're lucky it even had computers in it anywhere, since at that time, well, it was 1981!

For the record, none of the computers are real computers anyway. They're 24p monitors used for video playback (that have to be synced to the camera's shutter) dressed in various ways.

You think in 2019 people will watch this and say "Jeez, that's NOT what a spinner turned out like, didn't they know anything in 1982?"

Since Ridley Scott borrowed some of the Spinner screens from his previous film, Alien, I think it's fair that I post my contribution to an old thread called "Things We Learned from Watching the Alien Films":

"In the future, there is no Windows, there is no Mac. DOS rules!"

That is the easiest question to answer so far!

- Everything old is new again! It is a nostalgia thing.

Notice the whole retro style?? The LCDs are disguised as old time CRTs. "Because they look better"

I think the reason there are no LCD screens is that they only have 4 year life spans, and everybody started just using the tube screens instead . New stuff is made to not last, but with thae state if industry in the movie the use of existing technology and material would make sense.
