some things I never noticed before in BR

After I got the cleaned up DVD I watched the movie a few times recently and noticed some things I didn't think about before.

First was during the Interview with Holden and Leon and announcer say's that Leon was already an "employee in waste disposal...duration 6 days". That would explain how he snuck the gun in and how he knew how to sneak back out. He may have even planted the gun there a head of time, taped under the table (just wild speculation on that thought though).

During the interview Leon is acting realy stupid and asking all kinds of dumb questions. I realize now that this is a technique to fool the Voight Kamph machine and irritate Holden so he gives up instead of going on with the test. If he basicly doesn't answer the actual question he has no need for an emotional response. In some cases an interviewer may say "nevermind" after too much of this and just let him go.

that's an interesting supposition. i actually always wondered how Leon could go around in Tyrell with a gun.

but i've got another dilemma about the Holden/Leon VK test: why does Holden look at Leon in such a suspicious way when Leon says: "I've never seen a turtle...". i mean, in a world where (real) animals are such rare and unseen, may ever be that odd to have not seen a turtle?

Even in the bleak future, everyone knows what a turtle is.

Especially running around in the pyjamas that pass for a Waste Disposal Engineer uniform.

I've always thought Leon's gun is Off-World issue, taken during the Replicants' escape, and not generally available on earth; it might have anti-detection properties.

I don't see it as a look of suspicion. More like exasperation. Despite Deckard's recommendation that Holden's a "good" Blade Runner, he sure seems a bit sloppy in this scene. It's his job to keep the V-K test on track, like Deckard does with his "just answer the questions, please" to Rachael.

Maybe Holden was just tired from all the tests he'd been giving.

Leon's brighter than most give him credit for and this cunning scene demonstrates that point. Even a Mental Level C Rep ain't a nitwit. :)

I see Holdens look as a recognition that Leon just gave himself away as a replicant. He noticed something in his eye response. Leon knew he'd seen it too and that is why he shot him. If Leon thought he was still getting away with it He wouldn't have needed to shoot him and lose his cover. If he didn't think he could get away with it he would have just run off at that point.

One thing I noticed recently for the first time was during the scene of Bryant showing Deckard the profile of each replicant. When Zohra?s info pops up, one line said ?Retrained? and provided a date.

What would constitute for a rep. to be retrained? Why was Zorah retrained? Bryant says she was part of a ?murder kick-squad?. Was she entirely something else before (like a pleasure model)? Or did she mess up once as an assassin and had to be ?retrained?? Is a rep. retrained via a set of new neural implants/instructions (like Neo in the Matrix), or an actual physical retraining process?

Also makes you think if a rep. needs to be shipped all the way back to the Tyrell Corp. on Earth to be retrained. If that?s the case, could this be the only time a Nexus 6 is allowed back on Earth, for reconditioning? For that matter, the two Tyrell pyramids are enormous, I would imagine that?s were all the reps are created, including the N-6 models. So perhaps they?re only illegal on Earth once they leave Tyrell property and are sold to a buyer.

Right. The rep cant be illegal whilst being made.

I reread the chapters of DADoES to see what it said and for the first part...Polokov(who Leon's character was based on) was "pretending to be an anthead" to work in waste disposal and that is how he caught Dave Holden with his defenses down during the interview and "lasered him"...later he pretends to be a cop.

Also Rachael Rosen was afraid Deckard might retire her after the test when he finally figured it out, but he told her that he wouldn't because she was okay being with Eldon Rosen as a sales model.

Ive always been under the impression that Polokov was slightly more intelligent than Leon. Didn't save either of them, though.

Well, even today, the average person would be hard-pressed to define a tortoise from a turtle.

Out of curiosity, why are you reviving these old topics?

"Out of curiosity, why are you reviving these old topics?"

1)They are all old topics.

2)That will not change because with BR the future is old.

3)There aren't many new topics.

4)Honestly, I just got to them. ;)

Honestly, it is nice to see some action around here again. Things have been a bit slow.

It hit me today. After 25 years I finally got BR. Suddenly it occured to me that there were no flaws in it at all.

The problem was that I had the wrong perspective...

Eyes.

I ignored the eyes.

I assumed it was just visual and had no real significance.

The eyes were the key throughout the film.

Eyes -What was seen or should have been seen??

Fans.

Fans? Why would a man who can afford to own pyramids have to have ceiling fans?? Was it hot? No. The climate was cold and raining.

Fans everywhere. Outside...in the rain?? Doing what exactly?

Fans imply "overhead" or "above". What was above?

There were fans where Holden was shot. They continued to spin above him even as life drained from his wounded form.

What should his eyes have seen?? What did he miss?

Re-occurring themes:

-the angst over the nature of existence
-the torment of mortality
-the progression of visual and audio errors ending in a confused, non-logical (to a bladerunner) happy ending.

All this as well as the imdb.com info. This in particular

http://www.imdb.com/title/tt0083658/goofs

I also considered budget and the difficulty of all other attempts at a BR type production.

Different versions; all of the are correct.

All this inspired me to write the definitive Blade Runner sequel.

I've learned not to trust that much in imdb.com... though a mostly reliable site, they are not God's word and quite often you can spot inacuracies. Example from the goof link Masao provided:

# Errors in geography: When Deckard approaches Tyrell's office in the spinner, we see him land on top of the pyramidal building with angled buildings on each side. But once inside, that same group of buildings can be seen in the distance outside Tyrell's office window.

If they pay that much atention, they should've seen there are TWO frickin pyramids. One Deckard is IN, and One he SEES through the window. One plus one, equals two.

Continuity: When Pris meets Sebastian, the visible words on the marquee on the Million Dollar Theatre change from "Azores Garcia...Vidas" to "Los Mimilo Co..Mazacote Y Orque".

There is no such thing as Azores Garc?a. The marquee reads "Andres Garc?a" a well known mexican actor, which starred in "El Siete Vidas" (Mr. Seven Lives). The continuity goof is still valid, nonetheless.

# Revealing mistakes: When Roy Batty, and Leon enter "Eye World"...

Now I have the chance to ask this forgotten bit of doubt, is it "EyeWorld" or "EyeWorks"?

# Plot holes: Near the end of the final scene of the film, when Deckard is fighting Roy, Deckard goes into an abandoned apartment filled with pigeons. The movie clearly states that real animals are worth millions if not billions because they are near extinction. Thus there would not be an apartment worth billions of dollars worth of pigeons, someone would have taken them for profit.

Where does it say explicitly that these are not animoid doves that escaped some merchant? I always asumed that upon first glance. Or they could be defective animoids that were just left on their own by the maker who couldn't be bothered to properly dispose of them.

#Revealing mistakes: During the fight scene between Deckard and Leon there's a point where Deckard gets thrown into the windshield of a car. However, when he is thrown and still in the air you can clearly see the windshield is already smashed with the imprint of his body, before he ever hits the actual glass.

Do windshields only break when human bodies are thrown against them? Lots of stuff looks broken and old in LA2019, without the characters intervention.

It seems sometimes they push it a little too much to spot goofs which aren't even there, or are subject to interpretation as actual goofs.
