Chilling discovery!

I discovered something intersting while viewing BR again that I had never noticed before. It's during Deckard and Batty's fight in the bathroom. Just after Batty busts his head through the wall, the next shot shows Deckard turning to his left to get something to defend himself with. As he spins, a human head is visible in the lower left of the screen (in the tub). As Deckard tries to rip the pipe loose, a human arm and two human feet can be seen to the screen left (propped up on edge of tub). Both the head, arm and feet are clearly human and not that of a mannequin. It certainly gave me a chill when I first spotted it.

I haven't checked and I ain't going to untill I got the new DVD but do you mean you saw a member of the crew, a sound man maybe?

It's not a stagehand or member of the crew, it's just another weird bit of detail Ridley threw in there. Perhaps it's meant to be one of Sebastian's experiments? Perhaps it's the mysterious "sixth replicant'" Mary?

But after going back to the beginning of this sequence (where Deckard crawls up through the floor and is entering the bathroom), the figure is not visible in the tub (on the far right). There appears to be a mannequin lying behind the tub (only the head is visible under the shower unit attached to the wall).

I am referring to the widescreen/letterbox version.

I just checked it out...and there is indeed a woman's body lying in the bathtub behind deckard. Not a manaquin (you can tell by the feet sticking out) and not a sound man. A woman, the head is pale grey with a bandana around her brow. Her arm is hanging out the back of the tub and her feet are sticking out the end of the tub. That's all you can see of her, but if you slow-mo through you can see other things beside the tub. They are not too clear but they appear to be a bundle of clohes and a shoe-- I can't tell for sure--could just be piles of trash.

Speculation:

1) could be anther rep--member of the team
2) could be another tenant of the bradbury who died or committed suicide
3) could be on of JS's latest failed experiments--a girlfriend perhaps
4) could be one of JS's victims--a human or rep that became spare parts(unlikely)
5) only Ridley Scott knows for sure.

yes but that does not explain the completely human feet sticking out of the tub. this is an actress who posed as a body in the scene. question is...who's body?

also....the mannequin you see earlier in the scene is in the bathtub to the left--near the entry to the room where Deckard came in. the tub behind him in the shot we're talking about is a second tub -- set at a different angle entirely.

Well, yeah - I sort of reeled back a bit - it's definitely human.

The Mary replicant was retired at JF's apartment in the earlier script (or is it in both, I can't remember).

I think Future Noir says Mary's scenes were never shot - or was it that some were shot, but further scenes were not due to budget constraints?

I'll ask Gary W if he knows - it might be able to find out from Morgan Paull or Paul Sammon - he knows them both.

Just looked at the scene again.

Two points:

1) the bath tub is the same throughout the scene - first time without a body in it and then with a body in it - Deckard sits on the edge at the beginning and remains seated even after Roy bursts through the wall.

2) This scene has been chopped up and re-sequenced - in the movie Roy puts a nail through his hand then bursts through the wall. The real sequence happened the other way round - Roy is standing next to the broken window when he spots a nail in the floor timber except that window isn't broken until later when Deckard swings a pipe into it - it's another editing decision.

Still doesn't solve the body, but get's us closer...

I have not looked at the scene as of 7-30-04 I will however email Paul Sammon and see what he thinks, it may take a bit to get his retort.

i'd like to think ridley did this on purpose as the mysterious 6th rep. (the femal one in future noir). its amazing how one little thing like this can clear up all the confusion about decakrd being the 6th. there's not enought budget money to shoot the 6th rep death scene, so they just throw in a dummy, and there's the dead one (and have deckard notice it and aknowledge its a rep, one of the one he's after). that would be neat.im not syaing that's what they did.

Here are a few frames from said sequence.

Frame 1 shows mannequin behind the tub (to Deckard's left) but no body inside the tub.
Frame 2 shows human head at bottom left of screen.
Frame 3 shows human feet (on edge of tub) and human arm (hard to make out in this photo but clearer on the DVD).
