Tsing Tao

Hello,
What is the nature of tsing tao consumed by deckard?
I do not think deckard is the kind of guy to drink beer. There is no doubt that the bottle of tsing tao purchased by the blade runner is an old bottle of smirnoff, but does it contain?
Considering the color of the liquid it resembles more to vodka than beer. It is true that Tsing Tao products a "tsing tao vodka."
The personality of deckard seems better correspond to a strong drink consumer (whiskey, vodka ,...) rather than beer.
But perhaps I am in error?
Best regards.

Tsing Tao

I would think sense Deckard drank from a shot/ type sake glass that the fantasy liquor would be Japanese sake.. thus a Tsing Tao Sake

China has some very strong rice or sorghum based liquors called Baijiu: "White liquor." Like the Korean Soju, Baiju basically makes Sake seem like ginger ale. Tsing Tao brewers do not make a Baijiu. I have also not been able to track down the vodka. All the Google links come up with is variations on the Blade Runner script, BR fanfic, and BR fansite articles.

I suspect that the liquor in the bottle is meant to be Baijiu. I have not tasted Baijiu, but Soju is gnarly stuff...like a very fierce vodka.

There has been discussion about the bottle of "Tsing Tao" on Propsummit, and most recently it was pointed out that the markings on the Smirnoff du Czar bottle added to it by the BR prop department are in what looks like Farsi or Pashtu. So every layer that is peeled back adds more, not less mystery to this obviously potent potable that Deckard buys after retiring Zhora.

Correct. The Smirnoff du Czar was the bottle used:

There's one on sale on Ebay right now for several hundred dollars. It was produced by Smirnoff for about 2 years, until 1982 before it was pulled from production due to low popularity.

I always wondered about that scene. I love Tsing Tao beer and that is definitely not beer she hands him!

:P

So there is no other hard-alcohol called Tsing-Tao?
