Can the KIA be modified?

According to the manual, "Modified KIA devices may have clues selected [with the right mouse button] which do not upload to the Mainframe." So I was wondering, just how can I modify the KIA? You see, the moonbus photograph I found has Ray McCoy standing to Clovis' left, and I really don't want Crystal showing up in Ray's appartment to retire him after an upload/download visit to Mainframe.

BOB'S SURPLUS: Ask Bob about Weapons and Ammo, then VK him. Afterwards, talk to him again, and he'll modify your KIA so Ray only UPLOADS what he wants to into the MAINFRAME.

Does Bob disappear after Act 3 the way that the lab tech does after Act 2 starts? I loaded up saved games from 1 and 2, trying to get the prompt to modify the KIA, but no dice.

I believe so. Eventually when returning to Bullet Bob's (Surplus) you can't enter the door. I am not certain when this occurs.

I might have to start way over then... He's not helping me post V-K. Only get to say "thanks" to him.

I am also not sure if modifying KIA has any effect on the later events.
