I got this from Dark Horizons website on Thursday . . .

"Blade Runner: SE (DVD): Ridley Scott confirmed during an Atlanta radio interview yesterday that the 3-disc boxed set special edition of his early 80's sci-fi classic "Blade Runner" will hit Q4 2002. Included are several deleted scenes and extras, whilst the set "may possibly" include several versions of the film. New scenes and effects are expected to be added to the release as well."

A 3-disc set?!? How cool would that be?!? Of course, I want to point out that we at BladeZone haven't confirmed this. But since it (supposedly) came from Ridley and not some 'inside source' like the AICN thing, I thought I'd post it.

_________________

"Have a better one."

[ This Message was edited by: Harry Bryant on 2002-01-17 18:50 ]

See www.brmovie.com. There is a link there to an interview with Mr. Scott. Mr. Scott stated that the voiceover is OUT! Both versions are good. Scott should just include the voiceover as a version in the next release and make everyone happy!

Of course he HAS to include the voiceover option. IMO, he can do waht he pleases, as long as he leaves us the choice to see BR as we want to. I'd feel kinda betrayed if it'd be just like, "forget that past 20 years, and from now on: this is Blade Runner, 'cause it's my movie and I say so".

Well, I'm not sure that including the workprint really makes sense any more - it isn't high quality enough and as Ridley is creating a completely new version, probably putting osme of the bits in that were in the workprint anyway, it would be superfluous. They haven't decided on whether or not other versions will be on the discs, but I would be surprised if they aren't.

I'm sure there will be a deleted scenes section and I wouldn't be at all surprised if the hospital scene remains deleted.

For all the collected news and views check out the BRmovie BR:SE news page.
How cool will it be if at the very begining there were a shot of the stolen shuttle with the reps heading for Earth, or a shot of the futuristic train entering L.A. that brought Deckard into the city!

Talking about the Workprint, let's not forget all this New Version DVD began (partly at least) thanks to the "Blade Runner Workprint Coalition", where many of us signed to WB for the release of the original workprint.

... sometimes I wish I was Paul Sammon.
But then again who doesn't?

What would be cool is the original, complete, full dream sequence, where you see two parts of the unicorn dream, and Deckard dozes off (its in Mr Sammon's book). But, alas, I don't see it happening (Zhora's snake dance would be cool too!)

I thought that putting the voice-over on an additional commentary track would be very easy but however..I don't think the additions to this will be huge.

It will of course have remastered sound (5.1 obviously, maybe DTS?) and picture, and the rest is speculation..the visible wires taken out, some dubbing fixed, Roy Batty's first scene in the telephone booth fixed (reversed moment from when he's on the bed beside Tyrell, to me this looks out of place), some flabs regarding incept dates fixed, the documentary 'The Edge of Blade Runner' and loads of deleted scenes including Holden in the hospital etc (though I wouldn't like this to be re-inserted into the main movie). Perhaps a commentary from Scott, Rutger, Daryl, Olmos, Syd Mead, Hampton Fancher, David Snyder, Douglas Trumbull and Paul M . Sammon (doubt if Harrison would get involved - what do you think?).

Anyway I am looking forward to this like no other, and if I've got the above completely wrong, I hope it's because its even BETTER, because this stunning movie deserves the best..

well, I pretty much was gonna say what The Dark Knight said, so...at least I hope that the hospital scene is added, unfortunately I have not hade the time to learn about other scenes/things...

On May 27th Encore aired it's latest in it's series "The Directors" They went through Ridley's film career and he spoke quite a bit about "Blade Runner" He has never been happy with the original release or the Director's Cut. Both he and Harrison Ford hated the voiceovers so I wouldn't expect to hear them in a Special Edition Release which Ridley said he will do. He says he will go back into the original, digitally remaster it and make it the way he always wanted it to be done! The only question left is when.

*cries when he considers that this "promising" news is two and a half years old, and the dvd seems to have moved backwards since then*

Deckard: "Finished".
