Welp. I just got done putting together a really nice surround sound system. Pretty basic (JBL NSP1 and Onkyo 595 reciever), but in my 10 x 10 bedroom, it sounds fantastic. And nothing brings out the range of my equipment like the Blade Runner Soundtrack. Love Theme is my favorite. The sultry sax plays through my speakers like a dream. I am interested in getting some of the bootleg tracks. High quality versions of course full wav files ripped from the bootleg CD would be preferable. Can anyone point me out to where to get these? Do a fellow Blade Runner fan a favor please .

[ This Message was edited by: niggenz on 2002-02-20 17:43 ]

What first attracted me to Blade Runner was the music of Vangelis. I had to see the movie that this artist created the backdrop to. I was not disappointed.

Another Vangelis fan, "Uncle Don", saw Blade Runner and had to hear more of Vangelis! A bit of what he had to say...

"You can thank this album for this web site. It is because of this soundtrack that I began my collecting. I believed that I could find the Blade Runner soundtrack from some faraway land. I searched for a few years in the mid 80s, then stopped."

More can be read at his marvelous site "Vangelis Collector".

http://vangeliscollector.com/vangelis_blade.htm

vangelis has some interesting stuff.
"Direct" was a good CD for the time.
"China" is a bit of a freak show, but if you like something with a bit of cultural diversity have a listen.

For years I put up with the Crappy Orchestra kills the soundtrack to BR. It was a very happy day when I got the Vangelis release!
The new songs/stuff creates more atmosphere.
I got mine from Super Collectors (ebay shop).

There's one on auction now.

There's 8 hours left - if you don't manage to buy this one, they'll probably have another one to auction at a later date...

I've used several file sharing programs and I'd have to say that Win MX is by far the best that I've used.

Why not give it a go...

_________________

Richard Gunn
News and Content Manager for Bladezone
richardg@bladezone.com

[ This Message was edited by: Deckard BR26354 on 2003-01-04 23:25 ]

You don't need to wait for a Gongo Edition to be listed on eBay. You can order one directly from the SuperCollector web store:
www.supercollector.com. They are listed as "Blade Runner (Complete Original Score)" and are $29.99. I'm not connected with the shop in any way, but I have purchased items from them previously and they have always delivered what they advertised.

Yes, yes, yes!!! I am actually bidding on a Gongo edition on eBay right now, but now I know I won't need to bid over $30! You, sir, are a life-saver! I ahve been searching for a "real" soundtrack ever since I got the Vangelis release, and have experienced so much disappointment.

Once again, thanx for the info,
emspace

I've been a fan of Vangelis for many years and consider Blade Runner to be one of his best works. My favourite selections from the soundtrack (the CD that was released in the 90's) are "End Titles" and "Tales of the Future". I also liked the selection "Animoid Row" which was not on the CD. Luckily, I found it on a mp3 website and downloaded it. Of course, it was an audio excerpt from the movie complete with the background noises of the city.

The "Animoid Row" piece is available for download as a section of the "Visions In Sound" Blade Runner radio special right here on Bladezone:

http://www.bladezone.com/contents/film/production/soundtrack/visions_in_sound/visions_in_sound.php

This particular version is taken from the Off World Music Definitive Edition Blade Runner Private Release, which was issued in 2000. I've not heard any version of this cue that didn't contain background "street" sounds, but the OWM version uses some editing techniques in order to minimize some of the more distracting elements. Some people even find the "street" sounds an integral element to the feel of the cue.
Well, I went ahead and ordered the Gongo Edition from SuperCollector. I also emailed them afterward to ask if it was in fact a factory copy with factory inserts, or a burned copy with photocopied inserts. No reply. I hate to be paranoid, but if this is in any way a "limited edition", how are they seemingly offering a limitless supply?

Has anyone bought this CD from them? I would love to hear from you if so.

thanx,
emspace.

I ordered a "Gongo" release from them 3 or 4 years ago. My understanding is that the original 1995 "Gongo" pressing was limited to 3000 copies. The "Gongo" CDs are not individually numbered (as many of the limited edition Blade Runner releases are.) The supply of those originals dried-up and the bid prices on eBay started increasing.
At it's peak, I saw one sell for over $300. A couple of years ago I started seeing a new influx of the release. According to a friend of mine ,who is a serious Vangelis collector, the "Gongo" release was reissued. The release looks nearly identical to the original release. Only if you have access to one of the originals to compare side-by-side with the new release can you discern the difference, which amounts to a slight variation of the color of the printing.

So... to answer your question: yes, the CD will be a factory produced CD. No, it probably won't be one of the original 3000, but since the release is unnumbered it really doesn't make much difference.
