Hey Robocop. I?m with you as far as thinking, or preferring to think of Deckard as human, but I?m afraid you?re mistaken about the unicorn scene. As Richard just pointed out, that scene was on the original script.

If I recall from what I read in Future Noir, that scene was filmed during principal photography in 1982, but the producers were very confused about what it meant. They kept pestering Ridley to take it out and he finally caved. By the time the restoration of BR was underway for the DC, the negative of that scene was lost and they had to shoot a completely new scene for the DC.
Your almost right.

Just flipped through my cop of "Future Noir" again and found that he did not have to shoot the unicorn sequence again, but he found another take of the said unicorn sequence. Same unicorn and sequence, but from a different angle. So he did not have to shoot it again.

It sounds like some people could really benefit from reading the BR FAQ! Here is what it says:
Despite what many seem to believe, original unicorn footage was in fact shot for the 1982 release; however, at the request of the producers (who didn't "get it", or just decided it was "too arty") it was cut.

When plans were made to make a DC, Scott insisted the footage be reinserted. Unfortunately, by that time, the intended unicorn footage had disappeared. However, one particular shot - an out-take from the original footage that had been discarded by Ridley Scott in 1982 - was found. That shot was cleaned up and colour-corrected, and became that particular BR scene we all know and love...

This is also explained in Future Noir (P.366 in my copy)

The unicorn dream was meant to be there and in fact is the whole reason they had Gaff make origami in the first place! Original footage was shot. The bit we see was not what was in the original cut, but is from the original footage. It is my hope that part of the negs they discovered for the BR:SE will include the original unicorn footage that was meant to be in the film.

Of course, the viewer's interpretation of said unicorn is wide open as there are nnumerous possibilities that are equally valid within the BR world and which one chooses really comes down to one's POV.

Was Gaff Deckard??

There are two possiblities: Gaff's Unicorn is as meaningless as his chicken or his "erection man". They are editorial and opinions, not the 'voice of the author'

The other is that Gaff may actually be Deckard. The meaning of Gaff or gaffer would be 'control'. A gaff is a control instrument. A gaffer is an old term for a boss of laborers. Where did the memory implants come from for an experienced Blade Runner?

Who was always on Deckard's heels or never far away?

Does this mean Deckard was a replicant who thought he was a Blade Runner?

Does it mean that Deckard was a human that could not be trusted?

How did Gaff know about the unicorn? Was it his own memory?

Did he know? Was it a coincidence?

Maybe Lead codpiece explains the cane...

How is that for a fresh thought?

And Mary (Stacy) I like to call her Marystacy, was to be played by Nina Axelrod who worked on Frightnight 2 among other things.

There is a pic of here someplace on line. She looks a bit like the actress who played opposite Fred Dreyer on Hunter.
