Counting the days `till I can immerse myself into the paranoia of a game based on another great sci-fi film from 1982. To be released in a few days (Aug.6th) for all 3 Next Gen. Consoles & PC.
Taking place where the film left off,it relies on a trust/fear factor - Not knowing who may be infected by the thing.(could possibly give the game a good replay value)
Check out the creepy Flash site at http://www.thethinggames.com

_________________
GENE ETTIX

[ This Message was edited by: Gene Ettix on 2002-08-03 15:14 ]

This will be probably interesting. I really like the movie and it's true classic today.
BTW, did you know that Carpenter's The Thing is in essence a remake of an old movie with the same title, from the fifties?

Yup. Been a fan since I saw Carpenter's version at the theater *OMG* 20 years ago.
The original is "The Thing From Another World" (1951)

_________________
GENE ETTIX

[ This Message was edited by: Gene Ettix on 2002-10-24 13:17 ]

If you're a Gamer and have not yet experienced this game, do yourself a favor and play it! But, if you never saw the film from director John Carpenter - Do that first. This is one of the best games based on a film IMHO... (Besides the BR PC game, of course ). It really captures the mood and,at times scared the sh!t out of me. I caught myself laughing out loud at how kewl it was.
{Coincidently,Richard Gunn here at BladeZone is a big fan of this movie, so I don't mind promoting it on these boards.}
I would like to recommend The Collector's Edition DVD as well. Nicely done,to say the least - with Special Features aplenty... including a hidden easter egg of the Isolated Music Score (something I hope is included on the BR Special Edition.Vangelis rules!)
A classic film & a killer game! 20 years later

_________________
GENE ETTIX

[ This Message was edited by: Gene Ettix on 2002-10-24 14:37 ]

Do you live in Slovakia? Maybe it hasn't been released there yet. It's available in America on PS2,Xbox and PC... not sure about Gamecube.
Hey, BR796164 - Did you know that I visited the Czech Republic about 5 years ago? I had a wonderful time

Yes. Czechoslovakia was separated into Slovakia and the Czech Republic. For your sake, I hope it was to your advantage
Praha (Prag, Prague) has an amazing history!I visited but didn't spend as much time there as I would have liked.
Are you a fan of J.C.'s "THE THING"? If so,I hope the game becomes available to you. If you like the film, you'll love the game.

Yup, The Thing is a classic horror and I just love movies of the 80s.
It has very thrilling, depressive atmosphere. Exactly the type of movies I enjoy to watch.

About CS - maybe it was a questionable decision to split the federation. The most powerful Czech and Slovak politicians of that time (Klaus and Meciar) just didn't ask people and splitted the country. Heh, I was only 13 when it happened so I wouldn't have the opportunity to express my opinion either...
Our nations always were like two good brothers, but eventually some have realized it to be unconfortable to live together in one house.

Despite the fact that we live separated now, we still have excellent relationships.

I went to Prague last month - very nice place, shame about the flooding...

...Budapest is very nice too.

Haven't got 'The Thing' game yet - I'm currently playing Timesplitters 2 which has a very nice homage to Blade Runner called 'Tokyo 2019' - rain, neon signs, street crossings saying 'cross now'...

...someone started a thread in the other forum area, I think...

Anyone played 'Ratchet and Clank'? I've got a playable demo set in a futuristic city very much like Blade Runner/Fifth Element, except in 'toon form

Also, I recently finished 'Project Eden' which can be very much described as Tomb Raider set in a Blade Runner universe - you start at the top level of the city and work your down into the depths of the 'old' city where the villain hides out. Very puzzle-orientated, but it has huge atmospheric levels - very industrial feel to it...

BR796164 - Thanx for sharing the info on your wonderful country(ies). Many times, we Americans don't really understand other nations and what they have to offer... except for what is on TV. (similar to my experiences with many Europeans who sometimes think "Baywatch" is the definition for California) Anyway... I'll be flying into Germany again in 3 months and who knows what other countries I'll visit I'm really looking forward to it.

BR26354 - I'm currently playing Time Splitters 2 as well. I played through the first few levels to get to NeoTokyo... that's where I am(might stay for a while
This game is played in the first-person perspective so it really feels like you're in BR on this level - Vangelis-esque music with an Asian voice singing, too. Did you notice this level is the year 2019? BR fans should definately check it out!
I have not played Ratchet & Clank or Project Eden. You simply must play The THING. I purchased it the day it was shipped to stores back in August (recieved a complimentary Collector's Edition DVD of the film, too). It could'nt do a better job of capturing the isolation and paranoid feeling of the movie Excellent ending is the "icing on the cake". I hear they may make a sequel - as the game is the sequel to the film.

_________________
GENE ETTIX

[ This Message was edited by: Gene Ettix on 2002-10-29 12:29 ]
