There are actually quite a lot of alternate shots, angles and framings within the Deleted and Alternate Scenes, I assure you. And it's not just a matter of extending scenes for length or for the alternate voice-over. They're extended to show additional bits of business and character moments you've never seen before.

Thanks Charles for clarifying this argument!
Now we have two different perspectives regarding the nature of that material: the DVD's author and producer's one and the Viewer's one!
I'm very thrilled about the idea to extend my knowledge of the Blade Runner realm by watching the never-seen-before out-takes and altertative footage.
But I admit it's weird that espergritblues didn't notice that those are actually new scenes and not just the same sequences extended to fit with the voice-off. I remember that Charles pointed out that we were going to know who was the Deckard's wife and to discover many other unexpected characters details.
How it's possibile that all those differences are so subtle that someone cannot notice them?

Blade Runner is a very detailed movie. Sometimes it takes multiple viewings of something to get the details, and even then things can be missed. The same can be applied to the deleted scenes.

Thanks for the clarification, Charles! Like I said in my original post, I've only watched it the once, and that in the little hours of the morning! I will, of course, be watching this entire 5 disc set many, many times in order to drink it all in! (I was probably too stunned by the awesome clunkiness of that alternate voice over to notice those changes in angles and framings first time around! )

I would have loved to have seen some of the extra footage of Rachel at Deckard's apartment included in the Final Cut. Yeah, I know, it would no doubt have kicked the ass out of the pacing - but, damn, it's great footage.

I know everyone's told you this already, Charles, but let me just chip in too and say a mighty THANK YOU! for the tremendous amount of work yourself and everyone else has put into the restoration and archiving of this terrific movie, now happily recognized as a modern classic.

Oh yeah, you do - that's all in the voice-over, as are many other bits of character background. But as everyone on the production has freely admitted, they just could never get that voice to work right. I imagine it's an immensely tricky thing to get right, but when it is done right (see Shawshank Redemption, Casino and Goodfellas) it can add immeasurable to a movie - and, indeed, should be absolutely integral to the movie, to the point where the movie wouldn't work without it. Of course, the fact that Blade Runner ultimately junked its voice-over shows clearly that it never was integral to its storytelling, thus in retrospect why they never were able to get the blasted v/o to work properly in the first place.

I think you really need to watch the Deleted and Alternate Scenes again. Specifically, the scene entitled "Memories."

That's really bizarre!
It seems that espergritblues didn't watch all those scenes all in all!
Now I wonder if you really play that chapter on the disc 4 or if you see just another featurette.
Indeed, how is it possible to doubt about the words of the producer of this astounding dvd edition?
Very strange situation.
I cannot bear this waiting since I'm really looking for checking this outtakes by myself!
Memories, you are talking about memories!

Guys...

This isn't that dramatic. All it means is the deleted scenes deserve a second look.

And third and fourth and fifth and sixth and so on. :D

Ah, you mean the photograph! Yes, of course, I hadn't forgotten that. However, I think you may be giving Mr.Origami the impression that they're actually going to see an actor with a speaking part playing his wife. Trust me, I would definitely have noticed that first time around!

(Still haven't had time to watch the Deleted and Alternate section again: I'm on backshift this week - 2pm-10pm - so that pretty much wipes out my day :( )

I dunno, the VO on the new clip on the website works very well, imo, much more nuanced and emotionally revealing than the VO we all love to hate.

Watched the doc and only scratched the surface of the featurettes, but already I think the 5-disc set can be championed as the definitive DVD for ANY film ever released. Just simply stunning. We waited a long time people, but boy was it worth it.

It IS great BUT....i'd loved to have seen more about Vangelis, maybe an interview with him or something. His score is such a poweful aspect of the film for me.
