I'm going to go to that. Unfortunately, I was not able to get tickets to The Final Cut, but I'll just go to the October NY showings instead.

I was there in Venice (took a comfy train from Grado to Venice, 90 minutes) a day before the premiere, on Friday. With family and stuff so I didn't even try to walk that extra bit further from Rialto Bridge (to a ticket office on the next square to the north - now I know) and ask for tickets (it would've been around 2 p.m. anyway).

At least I was close to heaven - I can feel it!

I feel at home here and since about 1988, which would mark my first viewing of THE FILM or since about 1993 when I first joined alt.fan.blade-runner. I even tried to translate their FAQ, but got stuck in the middle of the process...

I lost count on the movie theater tickets for THE FILM since!

Well, I did try. I checked the site, but the tickets were sold out online. I've been checking the NYFF calander daily, as well as ebay (and I missed a ticket auction, dammit) as well as calling the theatre recently. What I'll end up doing is, after the panel, I'll head over to the theatre, and just for the hell of it, ask if they have two remaining tickets. If so, I stay, and if not I go home and see it in October.

I called and there are only 'obscured view' tickets you can purchase on the day of the showing left. There are also two other coworkers gone those days, so I can not take the time off. I can most likely go to the Zeigfeld showing on the 13th myself. It pains me that I can not make the US premier.

Wait, what does obscured view mean? It's at the point where I'll take almost anything.

It probably means you'll be seated facing the wall or something.

Or maybe a pillar...sigh...

Oh, my God, what an event...now I have no regrets about not seeing the Final Cut tonight. I'll go to Zeigfield on the 13th.

But it was incredible. Four hours of academic discussion on Blade Runner AND DADOES. What they didn't advertise very clearly was who all was going to be there; They had two of the key the production designer of the film there, Philip K. Dick's daughter was there, Hampton Francher was there, Charles was of course there, and then after the panel had their say, the filmmakers interacted with the panel, and the audience got to join in. I kept silent, preferring to hear what people had to say. It was absolutely remarkable.

And afterwards, I got to meet Charles de Lauzirika. I think as I was waiting, Hampton Francher was signing an autograph on his back. I thanked him for the five disc set, and then I eventually found myself back here. Oh, it would be neat if they did this again in ten years!

Overall, it was an incredible experience. I can't believe how many empty seats there were. If they had better advertised which filmmakers were going ot be there, I think they might have sold out, but you know what? The fewer people made it all that more intimate.

I will add, though, that there was a man that, before the panel, asked the audience if they had any extra tickets to the screening tonight. I felt bad for him (and later some people took his seat, but he got it back), so I hope he enjoyed the panel too.

Charles de Lauzirika, thank you again sir. It was an absolute honor and pleasure to meet you.

Somehow I feel like a Bad BR fan. I guess I am not Dedicated enough. I do hope to hear more about it soon though. Thank you for sharing, Really.
