F*** yeah! Theatrical run! W00T!!!! I'd pay $50 a ticket to see it in theatres. Forget my excitement about Superman Returns coming to theatres, forget the next Batman sequel...im stoked about BLADE RUNNER being release in theatres!

I didn't catch THX 1138 in its theatrical rerelase back in 2004, but they had a showing in a Denver theatre, so they'll most likely have a blade runner showing, since it will most likely be in "Select theatres". If anyone is in the Denver, Colorado area, maybe we should setup a Blade Runner gettogether and celebrate the theatrical run.

Marathon 'Runner' 26/5/06
WB preps 'final cut' of sci-fi classic

By DIANE GARRETT

Warner homevid has disentangled "Blade Runner's" famously thorny rights issues to pave the way for a September reissuereissue of the remastered "Director's Cut" version, followed by a theatrical release of a version promised to be truly Ridley ScottRidley Scott's final cut.

Warner's rights to "Blade Runner" lapsed a year ago, but the studio has since negotiated a long-term license. The pic, now considered a sci-fi classic, has had a troubled history from the start: When Scott ran overbudget, completion bond guarantors took control of it and made substantial changes before its 1982 theatrical release, adding a voiceovervoiceover and happy ending. That version was replaced by the much better-received director's cut in 1992, but Scott has long been unhappy with it, complaining that he was rushed and unable to give it proper attention.

The helmer started working on the final cut version in 2000, but that project was shelved by Warner soon after, apparently because the studio couldn't come to terms with Jerry Perenchio over rights issues.

The restored "Director's Cut" will debut on homevid in September, and remain on sale for four months only, after which time it will be placed on moratorium. "Blade Runner: Final Cut" will arrive in 2007 for a limited 25th anniversary theatrical run, followed by a special edition DVD with the three previous versions offered as alternate viewing: Besides the original theatrical version and director's cut, the expanded international theatrical cut will be included. The set will also contain additional bonus materials.

The massive "Blade Runner" project comes on the heels of Scott's four-disc treatment for "Kingdom of Heaven," released this week by Fox homevid, less than a year after the pic's initial homevid release.

Hollywood Reporter - New world for Scott's 'Runner' DVD
By Thomas K. Arnold

http://www.hollywoodreporter.com/thr..._id=1002576544

Warner Home Video has acquired worldwide rights to Ridley Scott's "Blade Runner" and is preparing two DVD editions of the landmark 1982 science fiction classic.

In September, Warner will release a restored and remastered version of the film's 1992 director's cut, which debuted on DVD in 1997 as one of the first movies to appear on the format. This version of "Runner" will only be available for four months.

Next year, to celebrate the film's 25th anniversary, Warner will release "Blade Runner: The Final Cut," which it is billing as Scott's "definitive new version" of the film. After a limited theatrical release, the newly spruced-up "Runner" will be released in a multidisc special edition DVD that also will include the original theatrical cut, the expanded international theatrical cut and the 1992 director's cut.

"This is clearly Ridley's signature film, and we are thrilled to have it back," Warner senior vp and general manager of theatrical catalog Jeff Baker said.

He said that while specifics about the two DVD editions will be announced later, Warner wanted to announce its release plans early "to get this great news to the many serious film buffs and ardent 'Blade Runner' fans who have been so patient, despite besieging us with thousands of annual requests in recent years for new 'Blade Runner' DVDs."

" 'Blade Runner: The Director's Cut' was one of the very first titles to be released on DVD, and so it came out before optimal formatting standards had been established," said Doug Pratt, editor of the DVD-LaserDisc Newsletter. "Shortly afterwards, it went into moratorium. The early adopters who bought the title have long since wished to see it upgraded, while other fans, who came into DVDs later on, have been unable to find it at all. It is the only 'big' sci-fi spectacle currently unavailable on DVD."

"Runner" stars Harrison Ford, Rutger Hauer, Sean Young, Edward James Olmos and Daryl Hannah and won plaudits -- as well as two Oscar nominations -- for its dark, bleak vision of the future. Ford heads the cast as Rick Deckard, a futuristic cop -- the film is set in 2019 Los Angeles -- who needs to kill four errant human clones who hijack a space ship back to Earth after escaping from exile in an off-world colony.

The film bowed in theaters in summer 1982, and while it only grossed $26.2 million, it quickly became a cult classic. The film is based on the novel by late science fiction writer Philip K. Dick, whose prose also led to such films as "Total Recall," "Minority Report" and "Paycheck."

From Digital Bits:
" You veteran Bits readers will also be thrilled to learn that longtime Ridley Scott DVD producer Charles de Lauzirika and his team are involved in project, and have already been working on the set for a while now. Lauzirika, as you may know, was the producer responsible for Fox's 9-disc, massively comprehensive Alien Quadrilogy box set, as well as the multi-disc special editions of Scott's Gladiator (from DreamWorks), Black Hawk Down (from Sony) and Kingdom of Heaven (recently available from Fox), among others. You should also know that Lauzirika and his team are big fans of Blade Runner themselves. Rest assured that they know what you guys all want to see on this release, and they're working very hard to make it as good as it can be. Trust us when we say that this project is in EXACTLY the right hands."

Mr. Lauzirika, you have my apoligies (if you didn't get them earlier, you have them again). I absolutely LOVE my Alien Quadrilogy boxed set and I trust you to do the same with Blade Runner. I take back what I said before about the producers being full of crap, and blowing smoke, you have "done a man's job." Thanks and make us proud!

I think I'm going to wet myself now. A release this year AND an ultimate release next year. I'll definitely fork over money for both sets as soon as they come out. In fact, I'll pre-order 2 copies of each! Just as soon as they're up for order.

Where are the orgasm smileys when you need one?

All versions through branching, that's the way to go! \:D/

The only thing I fear is that they don't sell enough copies in the four months, and then they close again the toy box, reducing the extras in the ultimate edition, or some other stupid exec deciscion. :-k

Dear Jesus: Make them do it right, that means JUST THE WAY _I_ WANT IT hahaha !, and please please please forbid them to put that awful word "R?plicos" in the translation subtitles. [-o<

truly fantastic news. *if* it was only ever shown in the USA, i`d arrange a meet anf fly over there!

Gary willoughby once said to me that he doubted the release would ever come. this is fantastic news that should keep up on our toes over the months ahead.

Thank you to Ridley, Charles and the lawyers at Warner.

Our prayers have been answered. This is simply beyond the best news possible. First we get a new "Final Cut". Then we get a theatrical release, OMFG how good is that? And then we get a release with the OC and IC. God, it just doesn't really get much better than that. It will be interesting though if the HD rip from InHD turns out to be the "Final Cut." It certainly was a new transfer, that is without question. And it did have a DD soundtrack, so one has to wonder about that...

so now well look and rejoyce in awe as the director is now to go back to the original negative and finish the film once and for all

"you`ve done a mans job sir"

if you look through the forums, for years people have been clinging onto the smallest shread of information as if it was gold.

since we now have the information we were all waiting for, what do people think will be in this new version? if i read future noir correctly, there is not an aweful lot we dont know about, or is there?

in no apparent order

1. hospital scene
2. sushi scene
3. hockey mask dancers / snakepit alternate scene
4. extended deckard looking upto ceiling before he climbs the side.
5. crane shot of sudan going into sunset
6. unused tyrell scenes
7. true DTS/DD 7.1 audio
8. alternate flight plan audio heard with initial shots aproaching the tyrell building
9. original phone booth scene with batty
10. sort out continuity problem with missing replicant (mary?)

any more we want?? i would love for some new footage to be shot, speicifally a part of the original draft where deckard shows racheal the country side, and then he shoots her himself.

The fixed audio between Deckard and Ben hussan, the snake dealer. Keep the audio as it was in the Workprint, where the lips actually match the dialog.

Yeah, we should all support this amazing event. FINALLY it is actually happening, after so many years. I'm buying 2 copies of both as well.
