New BR SE DVD info

The original negative print of Blade Runner is on the move. I can't say who has got it, or where it's going.

Aw, go on...I promise not to tell anyone else

I'll have a guess...Charlie-boy at Scott-Free Productions. No?

I was wondering if the delay of the DVD might not mean that we will get a Blue Ray release instead of DVD? This would be worthwhile.

I saw a Blue Ray presentation that was astounding - you can read my review of it here and see the discussions that ensued:

BTW this is my first posting here - please be gentle

Welcome to the forums Reggie.

I dunno about Blu-Ray - I suppose I'll get the player when I buy my PS3, but I ain't shelling out for a HDTV until they're less than ?200...so I won't really get the benefit.

My question is, will you be able to really tell the difference between a good DVD transfer and blu-ray on anything smaller than a 50 inch HDTV screen?

Richard,

The answer is yes - but only if you are close to the screen. This is sort of like the people who bought 42" ED plasmas -watching from 8ft away the difference between a HD and ED was very trivial. However closer up you can tell the difference.

It think that is why you are not seeing 1080p stuff come out in the lower sizes yet (except the LCD panels) because the real market is the bigger screens for now.

Whatever happened to stereoscopic eye 'goggles'? No need for a screen the size of your wall to see the detail with those... 8)

Well, the eventual technology was supposed to project the image directly onto the retina using low-powered lasers

I guess that's a little scary :D

There's various indications that the good 'ol US military hi-jacked the technology for fighter pilots...or did I dream that?

Hmmm, dunno they definitely have the technology already in place to project HUD graphics directly onto the inside of the pilots visor - I guess the next logical step would be directly into the eye...

"It's going to be coming to HD-DVD. And it's going to be coming to Blu-ray Disc as well. This is real... it's happening... and it's going to be very, very cool."
