can't get Blade Runner to install on XP !! NEED HELP !!

Hey guys,

Im new here and I've been searching all over the bloody net to find out about this problem and have turned up with nothing... I seem to be having trouble installing Blade Runner on Windows XP, it comes up with the opening screen and when ever I click on the Install button the screen goes away and nothing happens... If anyone could help me out it would be greatly appreciated

Thanks,

G'day,
Are you talking about the screen that pops up automatically after you insert CD1? The one that says install, browse cd and close?
If so then read on

Let's try a different approach,

Insert CD1 into your cdrom drive,
When the Blade runner Screen loads, click close,
Click My Computer and from the drop down box at the top of the screen click on your cdrom drive
You should now be looking at the contents of CD1, find the setup.exe file (It might be called something else) and it should go straight to the setup screen instead of the other screen you saw.

In simple terms just open up CD1 in Windows explorer and run the setup file from there.

I have no idea why the install button isn't working for you, maybe the autorun file is corrupt?

Yeah thats exacly the screen I'm talking about

I tryed what you said and it still didn't work, it would come up with a black screen and then just exit back to windows, but the wierd thing is when I put it into my dads computer the game worked fine but for some reason I can't get it to work on mine... wierd

Any more suggestions ?

Thanks for the help dude,

Does your dad's computer have Windows XP on it to?
Do you or your dad have WinXP SP2 installed?

Here read this topic I found, PSyM0n has posted a link to a website containing a program which is supposed to fix older games playing on XP.

I don't have XP on my computer I have Windows 98 so I can't really help you much more but there have been heaps of posts on this forum about Blade Runner not working on XP - From what I've read my guess would be there is a corrupt system file on your computer which is stopping the installation. Heck you could always try running scandisk :D Just click start then run then type command then type chkdsk if this doesn't work look Here

Let us know how ya go :)

Hey,

I think both me and my dad have WinXP Corporate Edition

I tryed installing the program that PSyM0n suggested and that didn't work eiter

I also tryed running the "chkdsk" thing you suggested and still nothing happend, I was planing on wiping out this PC and re-installing every thing anyways, maybe that will fix the install prob im having... this is so fustrating cause I really want to play this game... GARR

Thanks alot for the help dude !

Yeah formating your hard drive is another option but its definently a last resort.

Sorry I can't think of anything else that may help you.

One thing that is for shore is that Blade Runner the game was made in 1997 way before Windows XP so it could be a software related problem. Maybe you could ask a freind for Windows XP Pro or Home and see if this works?

I suspect videocard and/or its drivers incompatibility.

Most of the people with XP report no big problems running BR game on it.

I believe Home edition is actually the same as Professional, except it has some administrative tools disabled or hidden.

xp home, pro, and corporate edition are all the same. differenc between them is...corproate is the pirated version. 1 license = unlimited machines, wheras home = 3 machines, and pro = 3 machines.

other than that, pro and corporate only differ from home in that it's security/administrative tools are visible and it has RAID support.

I have XP home edition on my laptop and had no problems running the BR game - it's the 4 CD version.

I think they made a DVD version version didn't they? Is your version CD or DVD based?

I think the DVD version must be quite rare, BR FAQ suggests it was bundled only with some DVD drives.
