Hey everyone,
My question is, do you think that Deckard is a Replicant. My answer is no, simply because he doesn't strike me as the Replicant type. One excuse that he is is that the police captured him after the rebellion and made him a Blade Runner. I seriously doubt they would take the risk. Think about it. Would if, somehow, Deckard perhaps fell from a tall height and bumped his head. Suppose that that triggers him to recall all of his forgotten memories. The chances aren't too high, but suppose it did happen. Afterall, something maybe improbable, unlikey, but never ever impossible. Anyway, give me YOUR opinion.

Good strategists take oppritunites.
Great strategists make their own.

Please forgive me if I'm repeating Blade Runner history. I didn't realize that it annoyed you so. I seek your forgivness and am truly sorry about it, but I'm curious as to your opinion.

Don't sweat it, man. Neither myself, and I'm sure none of the other old-timers at this forum, are annoyed. It's just funny, that's all. This topic is the all time, on going debate at this forum. It's like opening up a can of worms.

For the record, I too believe (or prefer to think) of Deckard as human. And as stated many times before, it probably all comes down to which version of BR you like better. In the original, Deckard is human with only a minor chance he might be a rep. In the DC, he's definitely a rep. But like you mentioned, we're all one big happy forum! Even if we are divided when it comes to this issue.

This is the way I like to think about it:
In the Original Cut: Hes human
In the Director's Cut: Hes a rep.

Easy.

My view is that it doesn't matter which version you see, from the evidence presented, it can be argued either way, so you make your choice and see it that way.

Most of the themes work for either option, although my personal view is that they work a little better if he's Human.

_________________
Visit BRmovie.com - Web home of alt.fan.blade-runner, the current FAQ, news, BR Encyclopedia, Analysis, BR Game info, BR comic, fan fiction and lots more!

[ This Message was edited by: BRmovie on 2002-06-09 06:06 ]

My personal take on this is that he has always been human, although the Directors cut makes it pretty explicit really that we are suppsed to believe he is a Replicant.
The idea of Deckard being a replicant I have always found to be an unncessary (not to mention illogical) turnaround of events at the end of the movie.
I mean if Deckard was a Replicant then almost EVERYONE he knows would by necessity have to be in on the secret, which makes absolutely no sense.
The only way I managed to work out that it could be possible, was that there once was a real human Deckard, and he died and was replaced by the Deckard Replicant who looked identical to him and had all the same memories implanted.
But then you would have to ask WHY the Tyrell Corporation would want to do that, and you go back to square one.

One thing about Ridely that is almost considered common knowlege is that when someone presents him with an "off-the-wall" idea, he has the tendency to embrace it, even if it means re-defining the entire project--almost as if he is easily swayed. In BR, Deckard was originally meant to be human, until someone (I can't remember who) briefly mentioned in passing something about "what if he were a rep?" Ridely instantly fell in love with the idea...and the rest is history.

[ This Message was edited by: endzem on 2002-06-25 22:50 ]
