I don't know how to do what you are talking about, but I did find the song "Goodnight" from the game on the file sharing service, Kazaa.

And that was just from searching for "Blade Runner", I wasn't even trying to find music from the game. I bet you'll be able to find music from the game on Kazaa, especially if you know the song names in the game(I did not).

Some time ago, I have recorded almost all music from the game with Goldwave, then cleaned and MP3ed...
It took me two days, but now i have the BRgame album.

I was playing the game as usual and whenever new music has appeared, I saved it, turned off all ingame sound effects minimized, launched Goldwave, then maximized the game again.

So simple, so efficient!

_________________
"We need ya, Deck!" Blade Runner Insight Forum

[ This Message was edited by: BR796164 on 2003-02-12 08:13 ]

[ This Message was edited by: BR796164 on 2003-02-12 08:14 ]

There are freeware tools that will allow you to extract the music from most Westwood games - the sound quality is not quite 'CD' but it better than most mp3's that can be found on the file-sharing services...

Hehehe!!! The guy who said that was trying at that moment to find the tool he used to extract the music from the game. So he could send it to you.

If I can't find it, then I guess I could send the songs to you. But it is a heavy message, 'cause you get 22 songs, like 10Mb.

I'll see what I can do.

hi, i have used the goldwave program an it seems to be working ok, i would still love a program that simply extracts the music from the music file though, also a few questions, is "by invitation only" an ambiance piece or am i missing something, also to the guy who was ofering to send me the mp3s, i have "animoid row" "blade runner blues(game version)" "bounce" "by invitation only, i think "geishan echoes" "goodnight" "one more time, love" and one more, its the one that plays when u chase zuben, i think its "solitude", so i would love the others

Who has invented the names for the tracks anyway? I doubt it was Klepacki himself...

Some of the tracks are very short, the biggest is BR Blues. The mp3 files you get, sound just as you hear them when playing the game, without the street noises, rain, etc. The software I used to extract them just takes the original packed file (.mix?), extracts and converts it to mp3. And I think you get a better result than if recording the soundcard output. The quality of the tracks in the game is not the highest, I think they (unfortunately) sacrificed it to have all the video cuts for the game and still keep the full game in 4 cds. You know how things were back in 97. I know of the existence of a BRGame "westwood edition soundtrack", but AFAIK it was limited, and made by Klepacki for the guys who worked in the making of the game, and the people of the company, so it is not so easy to get. I'll send you one of the short tracks as a sample, and you tell me if you're still interested, Ok?

When I wrote the BladeZone article "I Dreamt Music", the source from which I obtained a copy of the Westwood Edition bootleg told me that the material on which the release was based was the original DAT-Master recordings for the game. I had no trouble believing this because of the high quality of the soundtrack (it seemed much better than the "compressed" ,low-fidelity material one hears in the game itself.) However, after the article was published, I was contacted by an individual with impeccable credentials that explained that the source of the material from the bootleg was actually extracted from the game files and ran through a re-mastering process to restore the tracks to release-quality fidelity. What ever the story, the fidelity on the Westwood bootleg is very good.

The tray card on the bootleg shows that only 10 hand-numbered copies were produced. I see CDRs of the bootleg offered for trade on the Vangelis trader sites from time to time. So, if you must have one, they are around.
