Good news for XP users

I may have found a possible solution to some of the problems people are having trying to run Blade Runner on XP.

All my life I've had Win 98 and have never had any problems running the game, but I have recently bought a laptop for when I go away to do studies and it came with XP home edition on it. I thought I would try to install Blade Runner on it to see if I experience any problems, I did a full install of the game without an error but when I tried to run the game nothing would happen just a quick blank screen then back to my desktop.
I'm not very experienced with XP but as far as I can see it's just a little more flash than 98 & 2000 and a few extra features built into it.
When I was looking through the Blade Runner directory folder I right clicked the BLADE.EXE Icon then clicked propities, I have never seen the compatibility tab before so I clicked it. It says in this window "If you have problems with this program and it worked correctly on an earlier version of Windows, select the compatibility mode that matches that earlier version."

I ticked the box and selected Windows 98/ Windows ME, then I tried running the game again and this time it worked!
So for I have been able to play the game but like another member of BladeZone I cannot save the game.

#Edit#

Ok I fixed my save problem!!! I noticed when you first save the game (On 98) it creates a folder in the Blade Runner directory called "Save" and the game progress is saved here. When I had a look the folder wasn't there so I created it myself, I then re-loaded Blade Runner and tried saving and this time it worked smoothly. I think the game was just looking for the folder but couldn't find it, usually it creates it itself but... who knows?

So try changing the compatibility mode by right clicking BLADE.EXE then click the compatibility tab and change the drop down box to Windows 98/ Windows ME.

I must admit that I've never had problems running BladeRunner on my XP Home Edition - but from what you've said about the 'save' folder, it sounds like it might have been a security problem. My XP user account has all the admin privileges (probably not a good idea) so processes kicked off by me can create folders anywhere on the system (I think). Blade Runner was written before Windows had priveleges on user accounts so they might not have expected to have such a problem creating a 'save' folder.

Just an idea...

Well, a standard Athlon64 3000+, and XPx64 Edition.
I described my problem with BR game here

I've been hearing alot about this 64bit stuff lately, my guess is the game would also have to be 64 bit to be compatible.

I would wait for a patch/program or something to fix this problem (If this does ever happen?)

As for my original post, its just something I want people to try if they ever have problems running the game.

Not from publisher"s side, certainly. I really don't think they will make another patch to a 1997 game. The community is on its own when it comes to reasonable BR game tech support.

Yeah your right, I was leaning more towards a 3rd party patch/program. I really dont know anything else on the subject matter.
