Toyota's Azimov? I didn't see the show, but I suspect you're referring to Honda's Asimo which was first shown to the public a few years ago and now is the star of commercials around the world (some would say, to soften up the public into accepting the concept of a friendly home robot in preparation for a future mass-commercial version). AFAIK, the computing required is still not all on-board.

..... just checked the specs and it is still operating on wireless ethernet transmitters.

So some way to go before getting to what I would envision a Nexus 1 to be. In fact, if one examines the phrasing in the film, the "Nexus" range is a huge leap forward from already established home "androids". (In my interpretation anyway.)

Aw man...Asimo is our first step in the direction of becoming slaves to machines.

Sure! And the only way to avoid becoming slaves to the machines is by eventually becoming machines ourselves. I expect in a few decades time to be downloading my mind into a fresh new artificial body...

or by forming an elite Blade Runner unit to control/remove the machines that show signs of becoming a little too intelligent

I think its closer to a garbage bin on a evolutionary scale then something that resembles an AI close to human.
hmmm machines in the 21st Century takeover. Hmmm, Mankind put into a neural interactive simulation....Hmmmm, a man named Neo escapes the simulation and becomes "The One". Does that sound familar?

Just Kidding:

I know in England a year back, they had developed a cyborg. The man's right arm had been completly configured with a machine.
---------------------------------------------

The only way to actually defeat the machines is to construct a fail-safe. Like the four year life spans. That way they don't have enough time to actually formulate a revolt and attack mankind. Even if they did, they would be dead before we were....
Before making any replicants, cybrogs etc. they need to be handcuffed to a chair and shown films like Screamers, Terminator 1 + 2, The Alien legacy, you just don't screw with things like that, we don't need robots.

I agree. Apparently we're doing fine on labor from other countries.

hondas asimo is definitely the beginning of a new era in robotic humanoid designs.

http://world.honda.com/ASIMO/

My concept of robotics is for
A. Slave labour
B. Deep space exploration.
C. Really shit jobs that no one wants to do.
D. Make Bender from Futurama!

I think a 'Nexus' type being is a flesh based construct, not plastics etc.

So, what all can this Asimo do? I watched a tv show once talking about how right now all the AI humans could produce had the self-thinking and rationalization skills of like, a grasshopper, ie in that all these machines like Honda's robots and such had little more thinking ability other than to move around and avoid obstacles. (Stairs were quite problematic for some.) That's a long way off from any sentience or self-awareness. Is Asimo any more advanced than that? Did anyone see the Animatrix? All you gotta do is get pissed and smack Asimo once across the back of it's head, and everything goes all to %$#*...
