If you were responsible for conceiving and designing the next stage of replicant development, what features would you install in them?

Me, I'd probably make them more damage resistant and anatomically and physiologically identical to humans. In order to "control" them better, I'd either totally remove their emotional programming or I would give all of them memory implants...anything to prevent the onset of self-awareness.

perhaps the true and secret goal when development on replicants started was to create a human not just slaves..

I suppose if I was afraid they'd develop emotions and therefore go berserk, I'd install some sort of physical or mental kill switch, like:

- A mnemonic device that makes their system or cognative functions shut down when a specific command is spoken.

- A physical "plug" that can be pulled that either stops their vital organs or releases a fast-acting poison.

or

- Force them to require a daily dose of some antidote for a genetically implanted disease. No dose, you die in 24 hours. That'll control 'em!

Man, those are all reeeeeeal cynical, but if I was the megalomaniacal head of an all-powerful corporation bent on securing my line of commerce and controlling my product, that's what I'd do. Or I'd just release another version of Windows.

Make them come to your website periodically for "Fixes" and "Patches" or else they have constant errors and crashes.

Or make their hands so they can only fit Tyrell-manufactured offworld mining equipment. Then claim it's an integral part of how they operate, and you can't sell them without it. Or better yet, don't tell anyone else what shape the shovel handles should be, but then claim that anyone can make shovels if they want to.

How about:

SPECIALTY REPLICANTS: Extra fingers for high-dexterity work, extra limbs for heavy labor, implanted, refillable 02 tanks connected directly to the lungs for high-atmosphere work.

or

ADAPTABLE REPLICANTS: Mechanical housings, seals, and ports are grafted directly into the skin for easy spacesuit attachment, or to attach specialty tools that could work off nueral control.

I wouldn't be surprised if Tyrell had plans to manufacture replicant children (AI anyone?) - the child could develop emotionally within a real family unit - when old enough the mature replicant would return to Tyrell Corp to be re-deployed - the 'family' would receive financial reward for all their hard work.

Of course the child would have to be 'conditioned' throughout the nurturing process to accept it's 'fate'.

Although you and I can see the huge emotional repercussions of such an arrangement, Tyrell would only see the economic advantages - he could sell his new 'emotionally mature' replicants as 'deluxe' models to those who could afford it.

Extend lifespans of Nexus 7's to at least twice that of humans. For those willing to pay the price, a human's entire memory could be loaded into a Nexus 7's neural network, in effect continuing the life of the human who is going to die, and live on as a Nexus 7. The Nexus 7 would watch his/her human counterpart commit youthanasia to have the self awareness that he/she is continuing the life and soul of the human.
