A friend, who I hadn't spoken to for a while, sent me an email today asking about the 'Blade Runner Remake' - he says he saw a report on Sky Entertainment (UK satellite channel) claiming that Harrison Ford had been approached for a remake.

This doesn't make sense to me - I haven't got satellite TV anymore, so I'm not sure which program he's referring to.

Has anyone seen or heard anything remotely linked to a "Blade Runner Sequel" or "Blade Runner Remake" in the news in the last few weeks?

Remake?
I'll better try to take it as a bad joke...

And they asked Harrison Ford to take it, huh?
BWAHAHAHAHAHAHA!

(this mockery is in no way aimed at you, Deck)
I checked the Sky News Showbiz section - certainly no mention of anything like that now. So I checked the Showbiz section on the Sky News website - nothing there (although I did see that Angelina Jolie may be getting her kit off in Tomb Raider 2).

I check BBC and Ananova news most days and haven't seen anything there or on movie specific sites I look at and my BRnews spider hasn't picked up anything like that.

It does seem extremely unlikely. Particularly the "approaching Harrison Ford" bit which I doubt anybody would even consider doing. So probably just a wind-up.

Unless of course he's getting confused with Indiana Jones? HF agreed to do Indiana again, but that is not exactly new news.

Are you saying Harrion Ford wouldn't do it if he were approached?

While there are no aboslutes in lif. e, other than the fact that we will all die some day, the odds of HF re-making BR are probably nil. I would have a better chance of waking up one day and finding out I'll never need to be on anti-rejection meds again.

I think his first experience was just too difficult for him, and he has some bad memories of working on the film. Read Future Noir, and you will ge my meaning.

I highly doubt they will be making a remake of B.R.

Ford was blaming BR a bit and then it's not one of his favourite movies.

Star Wars brought him fame and he p****d at them where he could.

I strongly doubt even if it were happening that they would approach him about it.

A sixty year old Indiana Jones is bad enough. A sixty year old Blade Runner getting beaten up by Nexus-6 Replicnats again? I don't think so!

Anyway, if ever there were a sequel, I don't think it would ever have made much sense to include Deckard. Twenty years later, a Deckard sequel makes even less sense. If Scott were involved, (and at one time he wanted to be), then let him do what he is so good at - creating a new visual world. He's done L.A. 2019 so going back there would be pointless. So how about Off-World?

A 60 yr. old Deckard? Well, maybe... but a BR remake?..{Forget about it} Don't want it or need it, so there's no point.
Now, a 60 yr. old Indy?.. Sean Connery did a fine job as his father in the "Last Crusade",so let Indy have an adventure in his latter years

_________________
GENE ETTIX

[ This Message was edited by: Gene Ettix on 2002-07-19 21:17 ]

That sounds great. I surely would want to see that remake.

If done right, and if done by Ridley, I think I would't mind seend a BR sequel. It doesn't have to take place right after the original. It could done in "real time" to our time--twenty or so years later (ex. 2039). If that were the case, I'd like to see H.Ford do a brief cameo--perhaps as the "original human" (or template) Deckard that for some reason retiered or went off-world and so they made the Deckard rep we see in the original film (since Ridley says he is definitely a rep, but as I've stated many times before, I'll always like to think of Deckard as human to begin with.)

Remakes are really getting to piss me off. Some where improvements on the original: Get Carter (2000),etc.

and some that the makers should be shot: Planet of the apes (2001) etc.

But BlADE RUNNER is one of those films that should be left alone because sequels or remakes would destroy the original which is what happened to the Robocop franchise which has only begun to pick itself up lately with the Canadian production Robocop: Prime Directives but BR is one of my most loved films and don't want to see it ruined plus it is a movie that could only of been made in the 1980's and wouldn't bring itself into the new century well

It's hardly likely that they'll remake BR, it's not that old yet. Also Deckard quit from the BR squad, and was rehired when Holden was taken out, after his encounter with Roy Batty i should think that he'd probably quit again, seeing how shaken up and beaten up he was.

not to mention that he couldn't, since he ran away with a replicant, and therefore wouldn't be a man of trust to be a BR never again.

revel In Your Time
