I found another Australian website saying August is the release date, i don't know whats going on, maybe they are doing a Terminator or Black Hawk thing on us, releasing it in PAL countries first then the US. I think that sort of thing is good payback for US distributors like Artison and Criterion.

By the time they release the damn thing, we'll be celebrating the 25th anniversary. Anyway, hopefully that old saying is true: "Good things come to those who wait."

Well, I really stopped waiting ages ago. Wasn't it supposed to come out last summer? Anyway, when (if) it finally arrives, I'll be happy.

Aren't you giving up your hopes too easily? And who said it was supposed to be released last summer?

This DVD is aimed at hard-core BR fans, not a general audience. And such precise things always take some time.

Everything we were told pre-summer 2002 suggest a release somewhere around June-July to celebrate the 20th anniversary.

I too have realized nothing is going to happen for a while.

The wealth of Blade Runner stuff out there is breath-taking..I admit I'd rather wait a bit longer for the ultimate package as opposed to a nice looking proper directors edition with a few cursory extras. They may have released a 'cursory edition' first to test the waters but as mentioned already, the hard-core brigade like us will hold out for the ultimate 'Off-World' edition anyway. I still think there is a market for both editions.. bring on the best of the best though, with DTS and superior remastering..perhaps a 4-disc superbit-esque edition, with workprint and 2 extra descs devoted to extras.

perhaps a 4-disc superbit-esque edition, with workprint

That is just not going to happen, for a couple of reasons, A)The film wouldn't sell well enough to justify a 4 disc superbit, B)Warner is not Columbia Tristar so your use of the word superbit was in error and C)They would not be able to find a good enough source to get a good enough print for a superbit, notice that most superbits are films from the last few years?

Well, I hope they do something soon, as right now a normal video of the Director's Cut has more extras than the DVD (trailer!), which is just silly...

Just thought I would clarify in this thread that the August 1st date on some Australian websites stems directly from an estimate one particular website made last year. It was only ever a hopeful estimate and had absolutely nothing to do with any official announcements.
