I just got myself a High Def LCD TV :) ...watching the final cut DVD on it I was thinking how lovely it looked and how much better could the blu ray version possibly be ?

If anybody has any experience of watching both..please tell us of any differences.

I dont wont to buy a blu ray player to find theres hardly any difference !

Also I use a PS2 as my DVD player and my TV is HD ready up to 720 not full 1080..

If I got a DVD player with upscaling to 1080 would this work on my TV ??

Does anyone know about this stuff ! ?

I just found this...

http://web12.dvd2web.de/hd_br/hd_br.htm

unfortunately they've used the 'Directors cut' V's the final Cut
which kind of defeats the purpose of the comparison for me.

Sorry... No. Your TV can only produce the picture quality it's capable of. Regardless of quality of the components.

BTW - I've never seen the FC on anything but Blu-ray, but believe me... there's a difference. I'd suggest saving some money for a while as Blu-ray players get cheaper and buy one. It will up-convert all of your standard-def DVD's as well. :)
Hope that helps.

From what i've read, the Final Cut is one of the best looking Blu-ray movies available. I've bought the 5 disc Edition on Blu-ray and will be getting a new TV (full 1080p) and a Blu-ray player so I can enjoy my favourite movie in the best possible way :)

I've got a PS3 with a 32" Sony Bravia (up to 1080i) and have been meaning to get the Blu Ray version for ages. I cant wait to see it so will post my views once I get round to it. I'll have to wait until the missus goes out though cause she cant stand the film... :-(

Might look something like this..

Not sure how you get screen grabs off TV's but I'd still like to see 3 of the same frame by DVD/upscaled & Blu-ray just to satisfy my curiosity.

Perhaps I'm biased but when I was checking the HD master for Blade Runner, it was one of the opening shots of the Tyrell pyramid that convinced me to finally get off the fence and dive into HD.  The detail was just staggering. I had been kind of "meh" on the whole HD-DVD vs. Blu-Ray format war, figuring I'd wait until there was a clear victor. But when I saw those shots of the Hades Landscape in HD, I knew I wouldn't be able to wait any longer. Fortunately, the war ended shortly thereafter and I was fully Blu-bound.

I don't have a huge Blu-Ray collection yet -- probably shy of 100 discs so far -- but Blade Runner is easily the most impressive one in the bunch. But like I said, I'm biased. :)

Sounds like a lot to me !

Looks like i'm going to have to shell out a fortune on a Blu-ray system WITH HD audio, just so I can watch one Blu-ray disc...I must be mad !!

In a week or so I'll finally be able to see Blade Runner in the Blu-ray format. And while it won't be in full 1080p, since my HDtv is native 720p I'm still more excited about it than is considered healthy!

OK i just got my spanking new Panasonic BD 35 player and Yes the bluray disc does look pretty incredible....

anyway while watching something strange occured to me...

Rachel's voice in the VK test sounds slightly deeper comapred to the dvd

I thought 'surely not!' but her voice does sound slightly deeper so, having a Rode mic and some software and the final cut on both dvd and bluray i decided to record both and yes I can confirm the whole scene plays longer resulting in everybodys voice being slightly deeper...

If i was going to exagerate i would say Rachel sounds slightly stoned...I mean its not that bad but i did notice it enough to record it to find out..

Guess i have to much free time lol

Anybody else notice this ??

Hi
i just want to give some input to the HIGH DEF debate.

The difference is stunning BUT there is a drawback! When i watched BR in

standard definition throughout the years the city looked believeable and

the illusion worked. I think that was because the definition was a bit softer

and a wee bit blurry at the edges.

Now when I watch the remastered HD discs I look at the skyscrapers and

because the image is so clean and pristine I can see that the skyscrapers

are fake. I cant suspend disbelief anymore. Close-ups of the buildings

dont look as convincing anymore. I think the biggest giveaway is the

lighting in windows. Its all exactly the same. There is obviously only one

type of lightbulb available in 2019 :D I know, I know I shouldnt gripe

so much, the hades landscape at the beginning is spectacular and I cant

fault it. Its just those damn lightbulbs...all the same type and all the same

wattage  Sometimes less is more, but I still love my hd copy of the

movie.

Actually I noticed the Skyscraper windows on the Directors cut DVD. I was hoping that they would fix them up a bit for the Final Cut. Most of the stuff is still pretty impressive, but that one part still bugs me too.

We're never happy eh !

The Directors cut does have its own grainy charm but the HD Final cut is something to marvel at !

Skyscrapers. Buh! I saw one of the pyramid sides in person. I thought it was real.
