Look at what's happened so far. There is, without question, going to be a new generation of fans. Considering just how many "tastemakers" come to San Diego Comic-Con every year, there is going to be hype generated for the Final Cut which will easily be consistent with the hype generated by reissuing of Star Wars with all the CGI. Only this time, it really does look like Ridley Scott didn't do the equivalent of scribbling on the Mona Lisa like George Lucas did.
There is a whole generation of SW fandom which only knows the Special Editions of the Original Trilogy. There might be a whole generation of Blade Runner fans who only know the Final Cut. From everything I've seen, the "fixes" done for the Final Cut do not change the look of the film at all. They are legitimate improvements.
People whose first cut is the Final Cut...nice. I'm almost envious...but not quite.
Can't wait till they find us hiding here.
