Great news indeed!
Just to add from "Video Business", 05/29/06 edition, There are currently no plans to release the film in high definition.
I see that changing down the road when HD-DVD / Blu-Ray takes off...if it ever does.
The remastered Director's cut should be in 5.1 (DTS I could only hope), no?

The aritical states the Special Edition DVD will contain other alternative versions:
1- The Original US Theatrical vs.
2- The Expanded International Theatrical cut.
3- The 1992 Director's Cut.

So is "The final Cut" the 4th version on the film that will be on the SE DVD?
My only wish is that more of Vangelis' music would be on one of the disc. That I won't hold my breath for.
So 4 versions?
Thanks and regards,
carson

I understand it as this:

sep 2006 : remastered 1992 BR DC on dvd

2007 : BR Final cut theatrical release (totally new BR cut)

2007 : 4 disc box set on dvd including

BR Final cut theatrical release (totally new BR cut)
Original US Theatrical vs.
Expanded International Theatrical cut.
1992 Director's Cut.

At this time, we don't know how many discs will be included, although 4 is plausable.

So 4 versions. At least two of us understand it that way.
My VB mag was not too clear and was confusing the Expanded International Cut with the new "Final Cut" 2007 release.
Anyway, thanks for the indight.

Oh, should there not be some info on the Remastered Director's Cut for September release as far as audio? 5.1 DD, DTS, maybe both?

I was reffering to the set overall.

But I agree that SB could probably elimitate the need for more than one disc, although they may give the final cut it's own disc.

Has anybody noticed that online retailers are starting to put up details about the forthcoming Blade Runner DVD?s.

From the information that came out in May the Directors Cut was supposed to be coming out in September 2006 but two UK retailers have dates of 9 October 2006 and 30 October 2006. Maybe one of these dates is the correct European release date, anybody seen any US retailer release dates?

They also have web pages ready for the 2007 release of The Final Cut but they don?t have any specific dates yet.

Im as happy as everyone else in here, belive me :P
Great news :>

To be honest i dont care about "final cut" and stuff like that, never did, the only thing i`ve wanted and wished for was The Original US Theatrical movie on DVD with 5:1, if i get that im satisfied, for me THATS THE MOVIE, everything else is just versions/tamperings of the "bible" :)

God, I hope they stay away from "seamless branching". On my dvd player (which is superior in picture and sound quality so I refuse to buy another), this branching is anything but seamless... Sound lags behind in all Alien movies because of that crap. :x

Then it is your players fault. I have never ever once encountered a problem with seamless branching discs.

Also, there is a 99.9% chance they will use it, since they will be putting at least four versions of the movie on the set.
