Blade Runner Laser Disc and Player

I have located an original copy of Blade Runner Criterion Laser disc.
Unfortunately I don't have a laser disc player.
I searched on a couple of sites and found some used, but don't think they are made anymore?
So i may have to search around in some shops to make sure the laser disc player works as I don't wanna get burnt on buying something over the net that doesn't work.
any idea where I should look PAWN SHOPS?? etc?

I also have a video tape of the original theatrical release and am going to copy it to DVD to preserve it as my VHS is getting worn out.

I had the same issue a few years ago when I obtained a copy of the Criterion Laser Disc. I bid on and won a player on eBay. If I remember correctly I was able to buy the Laser Disc player for less than I paid for the laser disc. If you find a seller with good feedback and a fairly deep history it is usually no problem. Make sure you get the original remote with the unit. On some units, the remote is the only way to access some features.

thank you for the feedback, in your opinion was the investment worth it for viewing the laser disc and it's differences from the original etc.

i used to have the top of the range pioneer double sided player, and then went on to have their dvd/laserdisc combo.

anyway.. i did indeed have the 2 disk CAV version of blade runner, it wasnt anything different, and the missing frame was still there aswell (as leon hits dekards gun out of his hand in their street fight)

dont really think it was worth ?49.99 from MVC.

I used to prefer the Laser Disc version to the DVD before I bought an HDTV. HD really reveals the limitations of the laser disc. There are film artifacts on the Laser Disc version that are cleaned-up on the DVD. It may just be limitations of the medium, but the contrast and color saturation seems much better on the DVD also. This is probably the best version of the original release (actually the European release), since there has been no (studio produced) DVD version of this release. For me, it was worth the effort.

The quality of the LD Player has a huge impact on the video quality you will get on your screen.

I use a top of the line Japanese LD Player with NEC DLP projector (with built-in scaler) and, although not as good as recent and well mastered DVD, the video quality for recent LaserDiscs is very decent, even with 2m wide picture.

But Blade Runner original cut transfers were done some time ago... and never remastered in the last 90's. No "Holy Grail" release to be sought their.

If you happen to have some exotic releases of Blade Runner on LaserDisc, please do not hesitate to help us describe them completely!
