I think I have found a new goof!!! Take a look and tell me.

The goof starts where Roy kneels next to Pris for the first time after Deckard shoots Pris and ends with Roy going back to Pris for the second time. You will see the goof as Roy is kneeling down next to Pris for the first time. If you look at the back of Roy’s left hand, you will see some material covering his knuckles. I believe that this material is from the wall that Roy’s busted through to grasp Deckard’s hand. This is a goof because at the first kneeling next to Pris Roy has NOT put his left hand through the wall yet. What Scott has done is to split up a scene into two parts to save time and money. Remember the telephone booth scene? This is the same thing- Scott saving money because he is way over budget. Look for Roy’s left hand where he kneels next to Pris for the second time and see if you can spot any wall material on his left hand.

So, is this a goof and if it is, is it a new one?

Hard to say. Screenshot? I'm lazy to check.

I'm hiding even one more obvious goof to myself.

To jfuste

Thank you for the pictures. They are very sharp and clear. There is no doubt that this is wall material on Roy's hand.

I did a lot of research to see if anyone else had caught the goof. As far as I know I am the first one to spot the goof!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Master Po (i.e. joseph1949) says to grasshopper (i.e. jfuste) it was not luck. It was brains, brains, and more brains.

Again, jfuste, thank you for the pictures!!!!

hehe! Well, these snaps are reduced versions of original ones at 1280x532 captures. I've used SMPLayer with a ripped HD DVD version of the movie in my PC. I'm not afraid to say that. For now, is the best tool (this ripped movie) to study deep these kind of things. Piracy issues are not applicable here. I have 7 briefcases, 1 coffret and 4 tin boxes (one more fyling home) and all the rest os 2 and 5 discs versions, duplicated... Then, nobody can claim me (IMHO) a wrong use of a ripped film version "for education purposes" as I use! :D

Then, if more snapshots are needed, not matter. The grasshopper are here! :P

I don't wish to start an argument, but there is doubt. It could be just general mess from JF's apartment. It's not like his apartment looked as though it got cleaned very often (if at all) and the whole building is decaying and decrepit. It's not a great stretch the imagination to suggest it originated elsewhere.

Also, the screen cap shows Roy's left hand. Did he use his left hand to punch through the wall, or his right? I can't remember. Can someone clear that up?

Even so, a goof? It's tenuous at best.

Yet another goof I haven't seen mentioned:

When Batty saves Deckard and pulls him up over the rooftop, there's a tight shot on Deckard and his arms. You can very briefly see Deckard's free arm clasping his other arm - his arm that Batty is hoisting him up by (you can tell it's Deckard's arm and not Batty's, I think you can see the sleeve of Deckard's jacket and maybe even his watch). Cut to next wide angle shot, the one of Batty finally lifting him over the edge entirely, and Deckard's arm is dangling out from his side freely, not clasped around his own arm as in the previous shot.

Very tiny detail, and I'm not losing sleep over it...but still, funny that it made it all the way into the Final Cut without being CG'ed out of existence!

another goof:

when Roy exits the elevator and looks around for Pris or Deckard, he's dry. just about some seconds later, when he finds Pris dead, he's wet. yea, i know it's raining into Sebastian's apartment, but only upstairs.

I think I have found a third explanation on why there is material on Roy’s left hand. Here are the two explanations that we have already:

1. The material on Roy’s hand is from the general dirtiness in the building/J.F. Sebastian’s apartment.

2. The material on Roy’s hand is from Roy smashing his hand through the wall.

The third explanation comes in when one takes a close look at Roy’s hand as he is reaching down to touch Pris (this is when he kneels down next to Pris for the first time). If you look closely you will see a bit of blood on the edge of Roy’s hand. I believe that the blood is from Pris. It is a possibility that Roy had reached down (scene not in movie mind you) and picked up Pris’s body and this is how he got Pris’s blood on his hand.

If you watch the scene it is difficult to see the blood. I guess for effect Ridley Scott, the director, had Roy’s hand go in and out of shadow. This makes it difficult to see the blood on the edge of Roy’s hand. In my first topic about this goof, jfuste was kind enough to show us some caps of Roy’s hand. The bottom picture shows us a bit of the blood next to the white spot. Because of the darkness of the cap I cannot tell for sure if this is blood (I took the movie –the two disc The Final Cut version of Blade Runner- back to the movie rental place so I cannot check to see if this is blood). In any event, when the hand is in the light one can see the blood without much of a problem.

It would be great if jfuste would take a cap(s) with Roy’s hand in the light. This would make it possible for people to see the blood on Roy’s hand.

I believe that the blood on the hand makes me think that this is the better explanation (using Ockam’s razor principle) vs. the hand/wall vs. dirt explanations. Now, I am assuming two things here:

1. The blood on the hand is Pris’s blood and not Roy’s blood. Because the way scenes are shoot out of sequence there is a slight possibility the blood could be Roy’s blood from the hand/wall scene.

2. The material on Roy’s hand came from the material that was on the floor where Pris was lying. This material looks like the same material that is on Deckard’s coat. Deckard gets the floor material on his coat when he reaches for his gun so he can shoot Pris. Again, the material on Roy’s hand could be wall material, but the blood (see #1. above) makes this unlikely.

I believe that hand/blood/floor material scene is a goof. We do not see Roy reaching down to pick-up Pris’s body. We do see Roy’s hand coming in from the top right corner and not coming up from the bottom. To me this is a goof.

Again, tell me what you think - a goof or no goof.

Thank you.

The dirt on Roy's hand comes from the lost "foot chase/Spinner battle/Off-World blimp explosion/underground swordfight with Gaff" sequence that took place after Batty escaped from Tyrell Corp. and before he returned to the Bradbury Building. I actually found all of that footage but it was too cool to share with the world, so I just use those cans of film as door stops and paper weights now. Probably better that way. People would freak if they saw that Gaff had two different colored eyes in the swordfight sequence, and that Batty only managed to escape because Gaff tripped over Zhora's missing heels.

No goof.

Hello Charles, great to hear from you :D

Many thanks for clearing up the mystery re: Batty's hand dirt for us, it's been troubling me for weeks. Not to digress, I didn't want to mention anything, but our fellow BZ'er deleted is actually your production assistant, only you didn't know him by his BZ username. Anyways, he's swapped out those priceless cans of BR outtakes in your office with some leftover reels from 'The Beautician and the Beast' starring Fran Drescher that were gathering dust in the vaults at Fotokem. We'll be posting the Gaff/Batty swordfight sequence, etc. on Youtube within the next hour.

BTW everyone, while we're on the subject, Charles forgot to mention the other unreleased, heretofore-unknown section of BR outtakes. I'm referring to the 'Ridleyville Comedy Club' sequence starring Steve Allen, Carl Reiner, Gilbert Gottfried and Sammy Davis Jr. that occurred right before Zhora's snakepit dance. In the course of the sequence, it's revealed that Gottfried is a Nexus 6, Reiner is a sushi chef moonlighting for the L.A.P.D., and for some inexplicable and possibly metaphorical reason, Davis Jr. morphs into a unicorn. Allen makes fun of everyone mercilessly until Gottfried breaks two of his fingers and drives a rusty nail through his bowtie. The full description of all this archival material was due to be published in the latest edition of Future Noir, but Paul Sammon thought it was so unbelievably awesome, he decided to keep it all to himself -- until now.

Really? I've always had a secret crush on Fran Drescher. I better go thoroughly check those cans...

Of film, I mean.

I took the film and I've been using it as a doorway, kinda like how some folks use bead strings. It's like that alternate intro to Weird Al's UHF. Did you know that I actually met CDL's pet Rock, Rufus? Oh yeah, swell guy indeed. He's one of the assistant editors, only he's kind of...old school. He does all of his editing with Windows Movie Editor. Its fascinating to watch him work, because when he gets pissed he throws himself at the monitor...granted, he usually asks me for help. Truth be told, I'm not actually sure what the rock's gender is, although it did pee on my keyboard. So yeah, that aside, I used some of the extra outtake footage as a costume for the Editor's Ghost Sanctum, or EGS, which is an annual consortium of indie film editors who break away from the daily strain of taking a boning knife and carving board and hacking away at bits of film and nails, and its really fun. We got to throw pumpkins at Jane Fonda's schnauzer and Mercedes Benz, until she chased us out with a bat. After that, we went out and saw There Will Be Blood, which was a lot of fun, let me tell you. Harry couldn't stop laughing at the "brother from another mother" line, which in turn cracked us all the fuck up. It was pretty fantastic. The popcorn was OK, but the butterdogs were FABULOUS. For those of you who don't know what a butter dog is, its a theater hot dog covered in popcorn butter...its actually quite good, but you can only eat one a year, as more than that will give you an instant heart attack...thats how we lost Jerry. Well I mean, he's not DEAD, he just kinda disappeared. We think he went to a local mall and just got lost in the carousal there. So yeah, I showed some of the editors there the lost footage, and as it turns out, theres an alternate angle in the sword fight that appears in the Final Cut! Oh yeah, it was something else, lemme tell you. You remember that shot of the geisha dancers? Well if you take some duct take and fold it and put if over the upper left of your screen, you can actually see the sword Gaff used in that scene! There was actually a mirror imaged shot, revealed by how the eye colors of Gaffs contacts switched back and forth. OH, what's REALLY cool is you can see Hodges sneaking around in the background of the shot, then walking into an electric barrier and going "OSHI-" right before frying. And CDL didn't want you guys to know this, but the deleted scene of Deckard reloading his gun takes place at the same moment that Mary comes out of the closet, literally, but then she falls out of the Bradbury and kinda smacks into the pavement, after which she gets hit by a bus. It all has to do with all of the script changes and actor withdrawals, lemme tell you. Oh, and lets not forget about how Paul Sammon was actually playing Rachel in the last scene where she's in bed, and then through some clever camera work, it switched so that it was Sean Young instead. Very impressive work by Ridley there. Ha, thats funny, spellcheck says that Ridley is spelled wrong, and one of the suggestions its gives is "Ripley". So anyway, I also stole CDL's copy of "Wreckage and Rape" and I'll be having a private public screening with the EGS at the local garage in my house...third bay, if anyones interested. So anyway, I gotta do some literary research, its been fun, and as always, have a better one. OH before I forget, NONE of you are permitted to miss the premier of my new television soap-comedy "Legal Brontosaurus"....it'll be a stompload of fun. NOW you may all have a better one.
