Assuming you weren't thinking about it already, if someone were to mention 'Blade Runner', or you happened to see the title or some stimulus activating a mental link to BR, then:

From within the film what would be the first thing (or most dominant in the case of a combination) you are most likely to SEE? (apart from the characters).

E.g. would it be an eye? a spinner? neon lights? rain?

Good question. I think one of my first associations would be a dark, gloomy landscape, as seen at the beginning of the movie. It's really good, old fahioned way how to present the world in which the story occurs.

I usually see the Tyrell building (as in the opening scenes) or some type of fan. I think the fan is a very strong element in the film (used quite a lot in other sci-fi aspiring films)

Usually I think of the neon, like after Ford steps through the arcade observing the dead Zora lying motionless.

Also the 80's advertising. Totally permeates the movie.

i see the police HQ or sometimes the streets not neccesarily what wsa in the movie but other parts of it

I see neon lights against black, and rain. The billboards, the umbrellas, everything Beautiful. I think of Chinatown, too...

...fans spinning slowly, yes, and also shadows from the light peeking through the jalousies to the dark room.

Strangely, it doesn't appear in the movie much, but these are typical "trademarks" of a classic film noir.

I see a cityscape...and it changes to Deckard running Rachael thru the V-K. Then I see Roy die.

Whenever someone mentions Blade Runner (which is rare) I always first think of Roy Batty, because Rutger Hauer kicks ass. I always envision the scene where he is riding in that elevator with J.F. Sebastian up to visit Tyrell, and the fractured light glides over him. I also envision the scene where he is about to jump from one building to another toward the end of the film, and he holds that pigeon in his hand. Those are some memorable images.
The imagery was what made that movie. I have had bad experiences with showing it to my friends, because it moves too slowly for them. They think of sci-fi, and they want wierd, action-driven plots that move along like the Matrix. (Which is a great movie in it's own right.) But Blade Runner is about more than that...Rick Deckard's character is a throwback to the classic 1930's detective...hard-drinking, somewhat embittered towards women, and a loner. You know, had he lived in a different era, I think a young Humphrey Bogart could've done a pretty good Deckard. I saw similar elements in Tom Cruise's character in Minority Report, which is also based on another of Philip K. Dick's stories. But he was nowhere near as memorable as Deckard. I've always wondered if the makers of that movie meant to put as much character into Blade Runner as we like to derive from it, or if it just happened to strike a chord with a hardcore group of fans.

i agree, i picture roy with the rainy background as hes hanging out of the window, hence my signature. but mostly i think of the hades landscape, lights and signs, so i guess all of the above but not really in tht order, when i watched lost in Translation starring Bill murray, great movie great actor the tokyo cityscape has some similarities to BR but only mildly, just mildly. maybe bc of the japanese characters??

I see the opening 'Hades' cityscape with it's 'flaming towers' and I hear the 'wailing sirens' and sinister crescendos of Vangelis' opening score - breath-taking.

I think of Deckard chasing Zhorra, and then I hear that damn crossing signal... "Don't Walk. Don't Walk. Don't Walk."

I think of the blue dragon sign in Chinatown.

I think about Deckard at Tyrell's meeting Racheal for the first time.

...and then Deckard on the piano pressing the same key over and over again.

sorry, joke from kindergarten. few will understand it, if any. when i hear/see blade runner, i instantly see a mental image of the spinner and hades landscapr. more specifically, the spinner shot of the front view of the spinner when gaff and deckard are flying to the tyrell HQ, that "apocalypse now" shot.
