During the chase scene, there was a moment in which Deckard loses Zhora when she partially goes down some stairs. I not sure if it led to a subway or something else. Had she continued to go down the stairs, she would?ve gotten away. Why would she just wait close to the surface? If that weren?t bad enough, when Deckard spots her, she runs ?up? the stairs, back out into the open street, where Deckard can get a much better shot of her as a pose to seeking more immediate cover underground. Any speculation as to why she did all this?

[ This Message was edited by: endzem on 2003-01-31 09:44 ]

First of all, people (and, by implication, replicants) don't tend to always behave or react logically during times of stress or anxiety. An objective observer may sit back, gauge Zhora's failure to descend the stairs, and think, "My God! Does the woman WANT to get killed?" Zhora, on the other hand, was no doubt concerned only with keeping herself alive and in one piece for the moment and was probably not taking a long-term goal into consideration. This could be thought of as the "minute by minute" or "day by day" approach to dealing with a problem.

Also, the possibility exists that Deckard could not have spotted Zhora and may have passed right by her. Whether or not it is an advantage per se, were I to become the prey of some nature of predator (whether human or animal), I would want to remain hidden well enough to escape immediate detection. However, I would also prefer to be able to (1) keep an eye on my pursuer without his/her/it seeing me (if possible) and (2) not back myself into a situation wherein escape would be difficult, if not impossible. Had Zhora descended the stairs, she might very well have lost sight of Deckard, and she might have also been "backed into a corner" from which the inability to flee would have been an even more undesirable outcome.

The impression of that scene is that Zhora is going against the traffic in trying to escape Deckard... She seems to get stuck in the subway stairs. But like Intellidroid said people react differently to stress.
Have some guy chase you with a Hand-Cannon and see that reaction time is a factor!

Maybe some reps are claustrophobic...?

Why did she not continue down the subway? Dunno - let's invent a reason:

You need a ticket to enter the subway - she didn't have one.

Or she did have one but it was in her purse, which she left behind in her haste to get away. She only realised her mistake after going down the entrance ramp.

Easy peasy - next question...

_________________

Richard Gunn
News and Content Manager for Bladezone
richardg@bladezone.com

[ This Message was edited by: Deckard BR26354 on 2003-01-31 09:39 ]
