Congrats to Sir Ridley Scott

It has been announced that Ridley Scott is going to be knighted! Now if only he could get a goddamn oscar.

That's excellent! I'm so glad for him.<BR><BR>Unfortunately, to modern audiences, he is basically known for Gladiator and maybe Black Hawk Down, but that's about it.<BR><BR>Every time I here some news story about him on Access Hollywood or what have you, they only mentioned that he did Gladiator in 2000. I know I'm a fanatic, but I want to shake the person silly and say "This is the guy that made freakin ALIEN(My favorite movie of all time), and there was also this other little movie he made called Blade Runner!<BR><BR>When he is knighted, I just want people to know the incredible contributions he made to art and culture decades ago, Gladiator has NOTHING on these movies.

Despite being an enjoyable film. Gladiator steals everything that Conan the Barbarian was and get's away with it. And i haven't seen Hannibal because i don't find a movie about a crackhead running around killing people very interesting. Criminals in film shouldn't be glorafied ala The Ripper.

No doubt, Blade Runner is my favorite movie of all time. That being said, I don't think there is a Sir Ridley Scott movie I haven't enjoyed. He was knighted for his overall contribution to film/cinema/entertainment. I, for one, would like to congratulate the man for his vision and style. Give him the freakin' Oscar already!

I get the feeling that after his experience with blade runner, Ridley decided to try and make his movies more palatable to US audiences and "learn from" the "hollywood style". That is why I think his movies have been less inspired since BR. Though I enjoy most if not all of the movies he has done since especially his earlier stuff like 'Black Rain' and 'Someone To Watch Over Me'. Mostly because they still have so much of the BR asthetic.

ridleynoir, that is a very interesting point and I really think you might be right. <BR><BR>You have to remember that he had similar experiences with his followup to BR, "Legend". I did read somewhere that the 2 consecutive failures of BR and Legend really left him in a crises of self confidence.<BR><BR>I have seen Black Rain, but not Someone to Watch Over Me. But I have seen pics of that movie and it does seem to have a lot of the dark, stylish interiors, so you're right about them looking similar. <BR><BR>But I did read a comment on <!-- BBCode auto-link start --><a href="http://www.imdb.com" target="_blank">www.imdb.com</a><!-- BBCode auto-link end --> where somebody had submitted a review for one of his newer movies(can't remember which one), and the person basically said "In my mind, this does not even seem like the same man who directed Blade Runner".
