Just listen to the sounds, the atmosphere of that room, the owl, the replicant who as yet doesn't know she is meeting for the first time this killer of replicants... The playing of Rachael - see her dancing verbally around Deckard. And Deckard, so sure of his puepose and yet in many ways willing his belief to be true, to bury his true feelings. Tyrell entering, splitting the pair and yet full of secrets. The echoes of his power ringing around his domain that is due to end so shortly and yet he is so full of himself. And the owl quietly looks on - symbol of intelligence and yet innately ignorant. The real and artificial mingling as we ourselves get deceived with Deckard miming taking out the V-K machine and echoes of spiders to hint at future elements of the film.

It's all there in that scene

And one of the few scenes that is very close to the book of course, even similar dialogue. "The owl is artificial. There are no owls".

The owls were the first to die after the dust, and therefore the most valuable and rare..deceased more than likely.
Its name in the book is Scrappy.
