Origami

Was the origami idea from the book or was that just in the movie? If it wasn't in the book, who's idea was it? Did it come from Hampton Fancher or Ridley Scott? (Those are the kinds of tidbits I love to find out about movies)

Also, what is the significance of the Man origami? It sort of looks like the little stick figure has an erection... Is that a comment on Deckard having the hots for Rachael?

Speaking of origami, have you ever seen this guy's site? It's pretty cool.

Could be. I always interpreted it more in terms of Deckard getting "excited" by finally following some clues, getting more involved in the case.

The chicken and "stick man" origami are two reasons I don't completely buy the absolute definitive idea that Gaff's unicorn origami means he knows Deckard's thoughts . . . does Deckard have daydreams about chicken and guys with erections, too? If not, then we're supposed to accept that the first two origami are symbolic, but the third one is Gaff LITERALLY telling Deckard something? Why would that be? It could be, but then again the unicorn could have exactly as much meaning as the chicken and the stick man. Which is to say, some symbolic meaning, but nothing more.

First, I must say ( a slight bit off topic ) I broke down and finally got myself a decent DVD player/recorder. And man...does it make a difference! The colours are exquisite! ( And no linger green ! )

Now...after watching the deleted/alternative scenes from the FC set...which I absolutely LOVE!... I found a new perspective to the StickMan's purpose/motive.

You first see Gaff enter the bathroom. He looks around. Then he appears to use the toilet (urinate). He notices a scrap of paper on the sink which he then transforms throughout the scene into the Stickman. When Gaff places it on the table top Deckard doesn't appear to actually "see" it. But...after they leave the room, Leon comes out of the bathroom. He sees the Stickman. It was meant for him. Gaff, apparently, knew Leon was there...but let him go. This also makes sense in context with the unicorn Gaff leaves Deckard/Rachel at the end of the movie. He knows that, either Rachel is there under Deckard's protection OR that Deckard is a Replicant, and let's them go.

Gaff's infamous Calling Card.

White Dragon,

There are some other threads here with some interesting interpretations of the intent of the origami as well. I remember one theory (unfortunately I forget to whom to give credit) that proposed that the origami hen was Gaff initially calling Deckard a "chicken" but once he starting hunting Leon he was acting more like a man so Gaff left the matchstick man. But if the unicorn is Gaff's way of telling Deckard he knows about a (potentially) implanted memory, (i.e., Deckard is a replicant) the unicorn varies from the first two in that Gaff is not comparing Deckard to the unicorn.

Kipple,

Very interesting interpretation regarding the origami man being intended for Leon! (I guess that is why you are the boss around here! :D ) I never thought of that! The look on Leon's face after they leave was very unique as well.

Aren't colors rather a matter of a TV set than player itself?

The Chicken: You're as courageous as a chicken.

The Stickman w/ hard-on: (If you believe it was meant for Leon) Leon, we know where you stayed, we've got your pics; you're f***ed.

The Unicorn: (If you don't believe Deckard is a replicant.) Your girlfriend is about as real as a unicorn.

I just finished my 2nd Gin Martini as I'm typing this, so keep that in mind as you reply. :?

I shall keep it in mind.

That unicorn bit cracked me up. All three did. Nicely done.
