Your opinion regarding the Replicants.

It may have been a long time since this was discussed, perhaps never..

What is your opinion on the nature of the Replicants in Blade Runner? Are they lab grown genetically modified humans or biomechanical robots of a very sophisticated nature?

The reason I bring this up is because there are so many conflicting opinions and facts on the issue. I believe Ridley Scott was quoted as saying he considers the Replicants as a combination of organic and mechanical, sort of like the character Ash in Alien. The synopsis of Blade Runner on the back of previous home video releases of it suggest Replicants as robots as well.
Others involved in making Blade Runner seem to think Replicants are a version of humanity. But those opinions from various sources are vague.

Blade Runner is an ambiguous film open to viewer interpretation on so much of what is presented in the movie. Perhaps the Replicant issue is as well. What do you consider a Replicant to be, exactly?

(Here's something of interest from a source of mass consumption; Blade Runner is highlighted on Microsoft's Xbox 360 page as a "must have DVD, get" from one of Xbox 360's Live community representatives. Their synopsis of Blade Runner suggests Replicants as human. Interesting if it was an informed opinion.) http://www.xbox.com/en-US/community/per ... -hidef.htm

I think of the Replicants as fast-grown genetically engineered clones. Essentially human, but without the essence of humanity, and denied that essence by their human makers.

To my mind this makes Roy?s acquisition of the essence of humanity all the more powerful.

Slightly OT: It?s an awful film, but in Alien: Resurrection, the cloned Ripley describes Dr Wren, one of the scientists trying to acquire the alien, with contempt as ?This human?. This sums up what I think of Tyrell .
