2009 would be great for a BR Con. Here in LA of course. I've been fantasising about something like that for years. The LA Convention Center is probably too expensive and too frakkin' big for such a thing, so I suggest finding a hotel Downtown congenial to such a thing. The New Otani would be awesome, as would the Bonaventure.

The ultimate capper for this would be two events: a showing of the Final Cut at the Million Dollar Theatre, and a "Blade Runner Ball" in the former ticketing area of Union Station which is where they shot the LAPD HQs sequence. There was a recent event for the LA Metropolitan Transit Authority where they had a concert by a local band. They have WEDDINGS and BAR MITZVAHS in that space, for crissake! I'm sure it's available if the price is right.

Whatever project my friend Paul Roessler is in right now would probably be happy to play, or my husband and his musician friends could assemble some sort of band which could feature Paul because he was one of the punk rock extras in Blade Runner. If Paul is still friendly with his former band mates in Twisted Roots (there were two other TR members who were extras) so much the better.

I suspect that if part of the proceeds went to the Starfish Foundation we would at least have the blessing of Rutger Hauer, if not the possibility of him actually attending. And a lot of the other people who were involved are locals.

Hell yes...there is time...enough...to make something like this happen. Of course this could all fall into place almost instantly if Warner Bros. got behind it the way Lucasfilm does for the Celebration events.

I am no Secret Master Of Fandom, but I know one or two of 'em. I don't personally have the money to bankroll this, but I'm sure I can carve out the time to do some organization work. It helps that I live out here.

If this worked out, it would rock so hard it's not even funny.

I would never be able to go. A trip to Cali isn't justifiable for me, but it is an interesting idea.

If I could afford the trip, I'd go, but much like Red Dwarf's Dimension Jump conventions in the UK, I don't think I'll ever be able to afford it.

Nice to see that you are up for it, unfortunately i think it is wishfull thinking for us both. IIf you look back to my post "re mastered version delayed" from August 2006, you will see that i tried doing a poll then.

Realistically; a convention with people running around with BR blasters would never be allowed by 2019.

Since CA is already pretty much a police state, I would recommend a gathering as soon as possible...before it is too late!

Actually, to be a little serious here, both Anime Los Angeles and LosCon have very stringent anti-weapon regulations, being that both take place at airport-proximal hotels. So no chance bringing my snub to either con. No worries: I have an aluminum briefcase. Which is also one of my lappie cases.

One thing for sure: wherever we have this event, we should DEFINITELY not hold it anywhere near an airport, dammit.

Good answer, but i have no idea at the moment. It was a spur of the moment thing, but i shall be looking here in the UK as well as the US.

Why not pick the obvious? Some time around SDCC.

San Diego Comic-Con has jumped the shark. It is so big and so bloated and so crowded it is no longer fun to attend. Aside from the Blade Runner goodness, it was a train wreck this year. Anyone who thinks otherwise didn't attend when it really was fun.

I'd maybe be up for it. Depends on how fast I get through school. I'm due to graduate in 2 years, and after I get my degree I'll be flying back to the US. So it'll be close, but I'd be all for a gathering in 2009.

If the convention was in NY, I'd be there. Anything past the Mississippi is questionable. But regardless, I don't know why this hasn't been done yet.
