Tomtrek, you maked an interesting statement. Do you realy think reps might not have hobbies? Or at least develope them later on? I think if they are prone to develope basic emotions, that will lead them to take personal interest in other things, thus they might develope a hobby.

What do others think about all this?

"They don't advertise for killers in the newspaper. That was my profession. Ex-cop. Ex-blade runner. Ex-killer. "
Talking about replicant hobbies, we see something close to it in Roy's interest in the chess game. As a combat rep, I don't see them Tyrell's programming him as a chessmaster too. But since he's got a brilliant mind, he has the potential to be a good player, but he should develop it somehow. A high IQ doesn't make you instantly a good chess player, and you can see it when Roy discovers a subtle move that can end the game, even when Sebastian, a quite brilliant man, didn't realize it even when he had much more time to analyze (did I spell that right?) the board.

And that makes me wonder, when did Roy develop his chess skills? He had to be hooked into chess playing at some point. Therefore, I assume he had at least one hobby.

...

On a second tought, chess knowledge could be indeed very useful to a soldier, for obvious reasons. Chess is a war game. So, they could've considered this a good reason for programming him a chessmaster... Now I'm tired and won't go on over this.

...

About Deckard's hobbies? Hmm... I don't see him enjoying that much being an "ex-guy" (ex-cop, ex-bladerunner, ex-killer, ex-husband...). He drinks it all the way.

The chess game between Tyrell and Sebastian uses the conclusion of a game played between Anderssen and Kieseritzky, in London in 1851. It is considered one of the most brilliant games ever played, and is universally known as "The Immortal Game".

The above is an excerpt from the Blade Runner FAQ which also lists the moves and other facts should you be interested.
Well that is very nice to hear. It contains contributions from many people and many sources, but is mainly the work of one Lukas Mariman - a regular on the alt.fan.blade-runner newsgroup.

The intention is for it to be the definitive Blade Runner FAQ. Obviously it is never complete, so if you have any ideas, I am sure Lukas would love to hear them.
