hi, i am a "new fan" of the movie and have onle scene the directors cut of the film, i had a question to all of you out there, what was the voice over? was this the harrison talking through out the movie telling us things? WHat does he say in terms of bringing new life to the film? alse, what was the origanil ending? Why do so many people call it happy? PLease, can anyone help me out?

VOICE OVER: Deckard supplements the story by explaining the background behind certain events and/or characters in the story. This is rather cheesy at times, but I tend to prefer this version of the movie just because of the voice-over...at least, moreso than because of the happy ending. The voice-over tends to make more of a case out of Deckard's being a human rather than a replicant due to the fact that he (Deckard) uses the narration to offer us (the viewers) insight into what type person he is and what his motives are. The narration also helps explain a few things that may be a bit vague to the new viewer. The happy ending shows Deckard and Rachael driving off into the wilderness after they are shown entering the elevator. Deckard explains, via the voice-over narration, that Rachael is an "experimental" model replicant; thus, she has no pre-determined expiration date (i.e., she doesn't have the standard four-year lifespan). He ends by observing that he doesn't know how long he and Rachael will have together. Personally, I would prefer to see a version WITH the voice-over, but WITHOUT the happy ending

Good recap, IntelliDroid. Yet it's one thing to only "read" about this version, and it's something different to actually "SEE" it! If a new BR fan finds his/her passion for the movie growing, the next natural step would be to become familiar with and obtain both versions that are out there. For instance, the vhs BR w/voice overs can be found on e-bay from anywhere between $20 to $40 (A good inverstment in my opinion). We (the fans) still don't know if the special edition dvd coming out later this year will contain a V.O. version. The second step for a new fan is to buy the book "Future Nior: The Making of Blade Runner". It's awesome reading! I personally like this version better. PS- This is my 100th post! WOO HOO!!! I prefer the voiceover version, and lucky for my the hastings in my area has one available for rental.

I personally could take or leave the voiceover. What I miss in the director's cut is the extended scenes of violence when Batty kills Tyrell and Deckard shoots Pris. Definitely find yourself a copy!

I think the OV version is actually quite a bit better, but thats just my opinion; without it, the movie loses a lot of the 1940's Private Dick feel.

I rather liked the voise over (if only they could get Harrison to re-do them with some enthusiasm, but that seems unlikely). I hope they give the option of the VO on the DVD, at least on a separate audio (commentary) track. As stated above the extra violence should be reinserted as per the original release perhaps with seamless branching..hey I'm getting into a DVD topic here! So basically, newbladerunnerfan, you could wait for the DVD.See topic <A HREF="http://www.bladezone.com/forum/viewtopic.php?topic=242&forum=2&9" TARGET="_blank">here</A>. Personally I have a full screen version of the original on VHS and haven't watched it since the Directors Cut was released.
