Hi - It's been a while since I've posted - so hello again.

I'm in the process of looking for a new job, which unfortunatly involves trawling through news papers to see what's on offer.

I did an online Bladerunner quiz recently (not very difficult for pros like us). One question mentioned that Deckard is looking through the paper the Chinese noodle scene in order to find a new job.

This makes sense, as he's quit his BR job.

But this got me thinking - What other job would Deckard do?

I can't really imagine what sort of work he would do other than police work.

Well, I could imagine him working in a bar. He certainly likes alcohol.

So - what other jobs would Deckard do?

Private Detective. No question about it. Bryant's wrong about a lot of things but he's right that Deckard's got his own kind of magic for sleuthing.

I can see him hanging up a shingle somewhere far away from LA. Manhattan, maybe?

Yeah you're probably right - he would be a private detective.

Is there any background information on Deckard anywhere? I'm sure some fan fiction must speculate at his background. Maybe if we new more about him we would have a better idea of what he might do.

I suppose he could always turn to mining offworld if he couldn't find anything better.

He could be a carpenter.

Yeah, I was gonna say something like... (in my best Bryant voice) He should be used for Off-World slave labor, with the rest o' them skinjobs.

The irony of having newsprint in a climate of constant toxic rain. Certain aspects of BR are visionary, others ? primitive. The 50?s era vehicles retrofitted (?) to current technology comes to mind. To be honest, I think Deck was reading the weather forecast. What do you think the forecast for clear sunny day was?

He could be not the barman (he'd drink it all himself) but the bouncer in a bar. Ne'd never get the piano man job, though.

Also he could become a bodyguard, get a work in industrial espionage, or some other job on HR where he can put to use his skills in interviewing and lie spotting.

Come to think of it, right before he was "asked" to come back to LAPD, a job in Tyrell's waste disposal department had been just abandoned, leaving an empty slot open for any takers.

No one gets the carpenter joke? Do I really have to explain why Deckard would make a good carpenter?

I was guessing because Ford was a carpenter for Lucas before Star Wars was made. Either that or you were making some Biblical reference.

I liked your joke, deleted... but never responded *lazy*. Like ridleynoir, I found the irony of a possible Jesus reference rather humorous, as well.
