I should have posted it as a "Rockabilly" vid because RJ&PD are rockabilly, but the lack of vocals and fast string work makes it "Surf Rock" instead. I have to post this one on myspace. I have to see about getting a recording of this. I have to contact RJ now ;)

They call themselves "Electro Surf" and hail from Sweden

Here is there official website with downloadable MP3s (unfortunately no Blade Runner)...

Blade Runner is from their album "Cinemascope-A-Dope" CD Silence (SRSCD 4756) 2001

Actually it sort of sounds like surf-y punk rock. Cool. I think I feel a music video coming on. Once the new DVD set comes out I think I want to get that CD and get busy.

My god... I think that piece might actually work better as surfabilly than it did in its original form!

Can you imagine if they'd played the melody on a theramin?!? :D

er.. hmm.. er..

ok i hated it, i know i know, it looked like those guys put a hell of alot of effort into it, but I guess I thought it ruined (for me) a great vangelis track.

Any other track and i would probably said yeah great. though i do give them 10/10 for effort. sorry if my point of view lets anyone down.

:?

i recon i can do a Harrison Ford here and `make peace` with it, by accepting it for what it is. Its not vangelis, its a pop group performing a tribute.

Peace officially made :D

That would have been extremely cool. Synth and surf music is kind of incongruous. But Theramin...damn, that would be great.

Oh yeah, for all of you who didn't like the fact it didn't sound like Vangelis: it isn't Vangelis. It's surf music. Vangelis jamming with someone like Dick Dale playing guitar wouldn't seem like Vangelis either.

I am pretty sure they use a theramin on this tune/tribute. At least it sounds like one. I just like it because it is something different, and it is done well. Not to mention, I do like a bit of Surf and Rockabilly now and then. I would love to be out at a club and hear a band play it.

Not bad at all! I like it. One might not agree with the idea, but I bet if any of us here is in a club and the band starts to play this, we'd go outta our pants in joy and yell YEEEEAH!
