Deckard-Holden Relationship

What do you think was the nature of Deckard's and Holden's relationship? Friendly and warm (relatively speaking, of course), civil but cool, or was there strong dislike or rivalry?<BR><BR>In the movie, if one takes into account the deleted hospital scene, it's not so hard to picture them as being something akin to "drinking buddies" or something similar...or was Deckard just dropping by to see Holden in order to pump him for information? Holden's reactions to Deckard indicated some sort of warmth or camaraderie as well. However, in Jeter's books, they were jealous rivals who eventually came to an uneasy truce.

I think Holden; with his slick hair, fancy suit, and clean-cut wannabe "GQ" look, might've loked down on Deckard as sloppy, irresponsible slacker. The tipical "Odd Couple" of 2019.<BR><BR>Holden might've thought of himself as the "superior one" in their relationship. And I think Deckard was submisive to this with his "I don't care" attitude. Remember what he told Bryant when told about the escaped reps? <BR><BR>"Give it to Holden, he's good."<BR><BR>Deckard didn't think too much of himself, and maybe Holden had something to do with making him underestimating his self worth.

hmmm, from the movie its hard to tell, but in DADoES it is made clear that Holden is the top blade runner when he gets zapped, and deckard is pretty much his subordiate, taking the assignments holden choses for him or doesnt want. But its hard to compare since there are so many differences between the book and movie.

In the movie, after Deckard tells Bryant to give the case to Holden, Bryant goes on to say, "(He's) not good enough...not good as you...I need ya, Deck..." Now, whether this reflects Bryant's real opinion of Deckard's abilities or it's just a case of Bryant trying to flatter Deckard into accepting the case, I couldn't say.

well, I think they have some kind of friendly rivalry thing going on, but it's easy to see that Holden could be the better BR, especially since Deckard makes so many mistakes in the movie. Like getting beat up by all the reps, and only retiring two of them himself, and so on. But on the other hand, Holden gets shot <IMG SRC="/forum/images/smiles/icon_smile.gif">

I think Bryant was just buttering Deckard up for the assignment, because his top Blade Runner Holden ran into some trouble. Don't forget Bryant's comment, "If you're not cop, you're little people," when Deckard tries to walk out on him.

I think that they were good buddys, i got that feeling from the way Holden says 'Deckard!' in the hospital scene, and how he replyes with <BR>'look, friend'
