Hello Everyone,

Ive been lurking around these boards for a while and finally decided to join in. Ive been a long time BR fan but wanted to get into more in depth details about the film. I think part of the reason I enjoy BR so much is due to the retro-futuristic style of the film (Im also big fan of vintage films).

Im a graphic illustrator and freelance concept artist (Nothing major, TV commercials, videos, etc.) One of my hobbies is collecting and creating replica movie props.

Currently Im working on converting a Medicom BTF car into a spinner. Im about 80% done (just need to work on the lights and some interior details) and I was wondering if some of you might be able to shed some light on certain spinner details.

Ive noticed that in the film the tear drop shaped police lights are blue and amber...However, most (if not all) of the spinner models Ive seen have RED and blue tear drop lights. Can someone shed some light on this?

Is the coloring of the lights actually red or amber?

Just want to be sure before I add the lights.

I'd say red. I'm colorblind though, so they'll look identical to me. Police colors are Blue and Red, the spinner is a police vehicle, so it would only be logical that they would be red.

The spinner has a whole array of lights on its roof.
In the film there are blue and amber tear drop shaped lights on the top of the array (that revolve) and oblong red white and blue lights just below( that flash on and off)

Here's a screencapture from the film showing the lights.

I managed to find some faux plastic decoratives at an art store which were tear shaped. I had to file down and flatten one side though to get the right shape . -

Howdy and welcome to the forum!

We posted an article on bladezone a while ago about the restoration of the full-size spinner vehicle from the movie - here's the link. The images of the restoration work show that spinner definitely has red and amber lights.

If you go to the main page (bladezone.com) and scroll to the bottom there are several articles about the various versions of the spinner vehicles used on the movie - more pictures there for reference.

BTW, I found your web site - very cool gallery you got there!!

Actually, I'm confused - the amber tear lights in the restoration pics suddenly change to blue in the final restoration shot!

When I modelled the spinner, I settled for red and blue tear lights as seen here.

There's definitely several variations of the lighting array - I guess you have to make your own mind up!

I think Im going to go with the amber and blue tear drop lights and the red and blue rectangular lights (I believe there's also a clear rectangular light as well)

BTW , which one of my websites did you find?

Was it my photo album or my art gallery web page?

Damn right, one can dream... But for the moment I'd say if I could just make a scale model of me, put it in one of those beautiful spinner replicas and make a video of it zooming towards the camera, my joy would be real enough.

And then I'd have a big fat forum signature.

Maybe.... BTW, is the Alpha Romeo spinner still at the Miami POLICE museum?
I live about 20 minutes away from there...I was thinking about dropping by and taking some pics.

Err, the article says the Alfa Romeo model was a "Special EFX" exhibit at the Museum of Science and Industry Los Angeles circa 1988.

Are we talking about the same thing? :-k
