i dont know, i know terminator 2 was one of the first films to be remastered in HD though. it's not a popular technology, i mean not as popular as it should be for as old as it is. *FINALLY* production companies are starting to switch over.

the only people to benefit from this though are those with HDTV sets. of course, if someone is smart enough to record it with a lossless recorder (DVRs uses the mpeg compression, and it shows.) anyway, if someone were to record it with say a TV tuner card or some other device attached to their computer and save it uncompressed, you could bittorrent it or burn a dvd of it. windows media player supports HD content and works on any newer machine. someone could post some DC DVD comparisson screenshots afterwards.

i dont know, i think ill just wait for WB to release a HD version...yeah right, like that will happen.

Yeah capturing it uncompressed would be the best option. But you would need a LOT, and I mean a LOT of hard disk space for something like that.

I sure hope someone can make a BR fan happy by making a capture of this!

definitely, since the HDTV resolution is generally 1280x720 for 720p alone, dont get started on 1080i or 1080p. i dont think anyone on the bladezone forums has this kind of storage required, im thinkig in the terabytes. i mean i have some friends at the art institute having trouble with their movies that are about 1.5 hours long, and they're using 500 gb hard drives. with all the effects and video clips, and final cuts, etc... it adds up, and this is just standard NTSC res clips, 720x480.

so did anyone catch it?

I have a high-end home theatre, and any really good DVD player will have a chip in it to upres to 720p or 1080i in it, which is better than the simplier 480p progressive DVD/TV chips (2-3 pulldown), but at the end of the day, it's just upscaling a 480p24 transfer to 720p30/1080i60. I'll bet money this "HD" version is nothing more than what my DVD player does when I watch the DC at home right now. Maybe I'm wrong, but considering what we all know about the state of BR IP right now, I doubt this is something new.

that's what i was affraid of. nothing new in the BR world, just another showing on tv is all. they seriously cant expand a movie like this into HD without spending some money and a lot of time.

HDNET doesn't show upconverted movies. Mark Cuban who owns that channel is a major proponent of proper HDTV. That being said, I didn't see it when it was on HDNET, but I did see it on INHD. The version that INHD showed was definately HD. I have a 60" Sony SXRD and have seen enough material that has been upconverted to know the difference. You can see the pores on Harrison Fords face in the close up shots on him in the spinner. HOWEVER, the movie wasn't being shown in it's original aspect ratio since it was shown full screen 16:9 and BR's OTA is 2.41:1. If it was OTA there would have been black space on the top and bottom.

So on INHD at least it was in HD and it was the director's cut version without the Deckard narration.

Why is it so hard to believe? Are you kidding me? They take the directors cut print that was released in 1993 and transfer it (telecine) to HD. It isn't like it that takes much effort.

The special edition on the other hand probably requires all sorts of re-editing and waiting for approvals from Ridley Scott, all sorts of legal hassles, compiiling all sorts of materials and a bunch of other work (I read about the process on Home Theater Forum and it sounded like a major ordeal). etc... Just transfering the already released directors cut to HD is trivial in comparison.

I have personally watched the DVD downrez of this broadcast, and I can say WITHOUT QUESTION, NO DOUBT ABOUT IT, ABSOLULTELY POSITIVELY, that this rip could not possibly have come from the DC-DVD uprezed to HD. This is the REAL DEAL, A NEW TRANSFER. And anyone who is talking sh*t who hasn't actually WATCHED this doesn't know WTF they are talking about. PERIOD. END OF STORY. STFU!!! And furthermore, isn't Ridley or someone else actually on the record about an HD transfer that was made a couple years back along with a remastered 5.1 DD surround sountrack?

home cinema jobby thing..

I had it on my cox box from INHD and it was fantastic, you could read the spinner dash. Sadly I could not find any way to off load it and it was lost last week.

IF It comes around again I how have a DVR on my TVs firewire all ready to record, but I am not sure it that can be off loaded either, I can clone the drive but it only works in the Toshiba DVR, I tryed to get the program that is surpose to let my computer see the firewire feed but so far it will not work.

And even if you do get it into the computer, swaping hard drives will be just about the only way to share, almost all DVD recorders do only 480P.

Also no mater what system you record from it WILL be compressed, it is the only way "they" can deliver it (1080I/P) down a cable or over the air, so some compression will be there unless someone sits down and sets up a film chain and project the 35mm film directly into a camara and records it on a terabyte hard drive.

I wonder how many DVDs it would take to record a uncompressed copy of this movie?

A last word on home theater, I love my HP VP6320 Projector, and the 8 foot picture it projects and you can have that for around $1500.00, and I am including the cables and the pull down ceiling screen.
