A possible Alien reference

Most of us know about the mild references to Alien in Blade Runner. Things like the ambient sound effects and the screen graphics on the spinner are shared between the two films. But here's something I thought was rather interesting that may or may not be a connection between them...

I was listening the Alien director's cut commentary and Ridley Scott talks about the seen where Ash is running in place to stretch out his limbs. Scott explains this as an idea he had that androids had the tendency to have their limbs would kind of tighten up. This, at first, gave me the thought of something like Roy when his hand would clench up. This sealed the connection when Scott refers to Ash as being "a replicant, basically".

I thought this was kind of an interesting, if subtle, relationship between the two films. I've always viewed Blade Runner as being a sort of prequel to the Alien universe. They share a lot of similarities stylistically (for obvious reasons).

Er...I think you're thinking of Army of Darkness.

Very interesting! I like the subtle connection, and I like the idea of BR being an earlier part of the timeline that leads to the Alien story. I while back I mentioned here how I thought BR and Mad Max/Road Warrior could actually be taking place in the same universe at the same time. But that?s just me.
