Vangelis' Music

First of all... Im new! <IMG SRC="/forum/images/smiles/icon_smile.gif"><BR><BR>Vangelis' music for Blade Runner is excellent. The soundtrack (his version) is one of my favourite cd's and my favourite song is Blade Runner Blues. Its a very depressing song which epitomises Deckard's very state of mind and sense of being or belonging in the world. He is an outcast, so to speak, the opening scene which shows Deckard reading a paper through the busy crowd of people is a prime example of his lack of belonging. When we first hear Blade Runner Blues it is in Deckard's apartment. The tune hits just as he walks out onto his balcony looking out at Los Angeles. The music strikes me whenever I hear it and the aforementioned scene just makes me want to be in Deckard's shoes, despite the isolation, depression, dilemmas and withdrawals. <BR><BR>What do you think?<BR><BR>PS: I would like to talk to people about Blade Runner on ICQ or MSN Messenger. BR Blues is by far my favorite song in the soundtrack. I sometimes play it at night whenever it's raining and listen to it as I step out into the balcony of my aprartment and have a glass of brandy. I prefer the End Titles.. but Vangelis' stuff is good.. if not a bit disconcering. I fell asleep listening to the CD when it was one repeat one night, so I listened to ai for about 8 hours... I didn't half have odd dreams..

I love Blade Runner Blues, too. Of course, I like all the tracks. The music really does help set the environment for the movie.

I have the Vangelis CD and it is great, i love depressing music. My favorite one is track 2 blush response.

I also forgot to mention that my other favourite song is the one sung by Demis Roussos, its called "Tales of the Future". It has an arabian feel which coincides with the multiculturalism of LA 2019.<BR>

I know where you can get a CD-R of the bootleg version of Blade Runner sountrack. It has 17 tracks including the japanese sung "Blimp" song, the brooding "Return of the Prodigal Son" song, the mysterious "Chinese bicyclist" song, the beautiful "Unicorn" song, and more. I bought the official movie soundtrack CD several years ago and must have played it hundreds of times - I think the whole CD fits together very nicely and so I don't really see each individual track, but instead prefer to treat the whole CD as a continuous piece of music.<BR><BR>Recently, I have downloaded several of the 'bootleg' tracks, each of varying sound quality and I am dissappointed that these weren't included on the official CD as they are of equally high musical quality - I particularly like the haunting 'Wounded Animals' and the sad-but-uplifting 'Farewell' track (on reflection, I think that last track might be the New American Orchestra version of a Vangelis piece).<BR><BR>If Warner or whoever owns the rights for these tracks had released them officially I would have bought them (and will do so if/when an official release exists).<BR><BR>_________________<BR><!-- BBCode Start --><IMG SRC="http://www.deckard.worldonline.co.uk/filez/b26354.jpg" BORDER="0"><!-- BBCode End --><BR>B26354<BR><BR>--------------------------------------------<BR><BR>The difference between the impossible and the possible is equal to the difference between today and tomorrow.<BR><BR><font size=-1>[ This Message was edited by: Deckard BR26354 on 2001-09-15 21:44 ]</font>

Just bought the New American Orchestra version from Amazon.<BR><BR>Not sure that I like it (apart from the 'Farewell' track) - I guess I'm gonna have to give it some time to 'grow' on me...

The New American Orchestra version will grow on you. Granted, it's no substitute for Vangelis, but it is a unique piece of memorabilia to own and listen to. I bought the actual record back in 1987. Since then, I've updated my collection with the CD, and of course, the Vangelis version as well.

The vangelis CD we all have it's not the official soudtrack. You can't find a label on the CD or book that says "Original Movie Soundtrack" as most soundrtracks do. And there's the comments of Vangelis about that "this music comes from Blade Runner movie and some songs are inspired on that film but weren't included in ST..." or something like that. Anyway, I like all the extra songs, specially Rachel's Song, that woman's voice is so beautiful... I'd love it if the 20th anniversary edition DVD box came with a CD with the long-awaited complete original film soudtrack.

I do not as yet own the soundtrack, and would like to know where I might be able to purchase it. does anyone have any suggestions? Is it even on sale anymore? Most likely I will have to go internet shopping, and I hate that, but if it concerns the soundtrack then I'll give it a go... ungh...
