Music at Taffey's

http://www.brmovie.com/FAQs/BRRM_P3.htm

Artists: OMD
Album: Junk Culture (1984)
Track: Junk Culture
This isn't directly related to BR. They both use the "Mexican Radio" sample. In BR, it is in Taffey's.

Famous Samples The Emulator sample library was used on many famous tracks in 1981 - 83, perhaps the most unusual is the Mexican radio sample which was used in both the bar scene of BladeRunner the film, and forms the basis of the OMD track "Junk Culture"

Can anybody explain me, what that "mexican-radio"-sample is ??

That is an amazing observation. The Junk Culture track obviously uses the same loop that is used on the cue Vangelis created for Zhora's dance. I pulled up sections of both pieces simultaneously so I could compare and the only difference seems to be the choice of extra percussion instruments. The OMD track uses extra drum samples to give it more of a dance feel, while the Vangelis track uses temple bells to give it a more middle-eastern feel. Interesting ... thanks for the tip.

does wall of voodoo's 'mexican radio'-song contain the sample?
the sound at the beginning doesn't remind me of BR...

No, I think the only thing the Wall of Voodoo track and the sample share is the name 'Mexican Radio'. I don't hear any similarity between them. The common elements between the ODM and Vangelis tracks (and what I'm assuming makes up the sample loop) are the melody (the middle eastern sounding lead instrument) the 'syndrums' (the repeating, electronic, falling-in-pitch sound strongly associated with disco hits), the repeating bass guitar and kick drum parts. Basically everything except a small amount of added percussion. I'm going to do a search and see if someone has coverted this sample loop to a more universal format.
