Rice cooking for dummy Replicants!
Ok, before I forget to mention it, I have a cooking tip.
I know it is oriental cooking heresy, but I have a new method of cooking instant rice you might want to try.
If you follow current shopping trends, there is a new fashion in microwave cooking (yes I know...instant rice in a microwave endangers the space-time continuum not to mention that it is not exactly traditional...)
The trend is the new throw frozen food in a sealed bag into the microwave and cook it that way...well...
You can do this with instant rice! There are new do-it-yourself bags available. I confess: I use Ziplock ZipnSteam when I am too lazy to make rice the right way.
1) Follow measurement instructions on the box for the rice.
2) Fill the bag with the correct measure of water. Do Not Overfill! The bags have instructions on content limits.
3) Elevate the bag opening by putting it on a paper plate or folding the top down to form a ramp. The bags are 'sealed' but still have side vents. They can leak liquids if tipped.
4)Heat the water to a boil...about 2-3 mins. Stop heating when a rolling boil is attained.
5) Add rice to the hot water and return the bag to the oven.
6) Seal and elevate the opening as before.
7) Heat again for another 2 mins and let steam for an additional 2 mins.
This is the best way I have found (short of a rice cooker) to make instant rice.
